All full-time employees who are enrolled in Tiffin University's health insurance plan are eligible for dental coverage through Guardian Insurance. Tiffin University will pay the premium for the employee. Coverage for an employee and spouse is $32 per month, employee and child is $34 per month, and family coverage is $66 per month.
Vision Coverage
Vision is not currently included in Tiffin University’s health policy.
Flexible Spending Account
- Health Insurance Premiums
- Child and Dependent Care Expenses
- Unreimbursed Medical Expenses
With the flexible spending account, the employee designates an amount of money to be set aside each pay period during the year to pay medical expenses not covered by the health policy; for example – deductibles, out-of-pocket expenses and vision and dental expenses. Money is deducted before taxes. You may sign up as new employee, and then again when the plan year ends (January 1-December 31 is the plan year). Please note that any money not spent within the allotted time is lost. Employees may participate even if they choose not to participate in Tiffin University's health insurance policy.
Life Insurance
Life Insurance is available through Guardian. Tiffin University pays the entire premium for a basic life policy. The life policy is equivalent to one times the employee's annual salary, with a minimum of $25,000.
Dependent accounts are also available ($10,000 for spouse; $5,000 for each dependent child), paid for by the employee at the rate of $3 per month.
Supplemental Life Insurance is available as well.
Long-Term Disability Insurance
Tiffin University covers this premium. The Long-Term Disability Policy pays the employee 66-2/3% of pay.
TIAA-CREF Annuity
You may enroll immediately upon employment. You must contribute at least 5% of gross pay, with TU’s contribution of 7% beginning at the one-year anniversary, UNLESS the employee has an existing TIAA-CREF account. If so, employee and employer contributions would begin immediately if the employee chooses to participate.
Annual Leave
Annual leave is designed for the general well-being of the employee and may be used for vacations, family medical leave, or other personal business. Eligible staff members earn annual leave effective on the beginning date of employment. Faculty members do not earn annual leave.
Years of Service & Hours Credited
- Less than two years – 6.67 hours credited monthly, and 80 hours annually.
- Two to five years – 10 hours credited monthly, and 120 hours annually.
- More than five years – 13.34 hours credited monthly, and 160 hours annually.
Sick Leave
Eligible staff members earn sick leave beginning on the date of initial employment. Faculty members do not earn sick leave.
Sick leave may be used for personal illness, doctor's appointments, and up to four days for each incident of illness in the family, as defined by the Family Medical Leave Act. The sole purpose of sick leave is to provide continued income during periods of illness. All employees are urged to accumulate as much sick leave as possible in case a major illness should occur.
Sick leave is earned at the rate of 6.67 hours per month of employment, with an accumulation account maintained for each employee. Leave earned is credited to the employee's account and reported to each employee on a monthly basis.
Holidays
Approximately six to seven paid holidays are observed per year, plus one week between Christmas and New Year's.
Tuition Reimbursement Program
The employee, spouse and dependent children may take undergraduate classes at no cost. Graduate program at Tiffin University is available at no cost to employee only. Employees may enroll in other graduate programs and receive at least 50% reimbursement.
Employees are encouraged to attend workshops and seminars, for which expenses are usually fully reimbursed.
