WHO WE ARE…
The Office of Student Retention Services provides support and motivation to enhance overall student satisfaction. As advocates for students, we work closely with faculty and staff to promote academic success and campus involvement, to assist students in reaching their full potential. The Retention Office collaborates with all departments and student organizations to increase persistence towards each student’s educational pursuits.
Our staff strives to enhance overall student success and retention at Tiffin University. A strong emphasis is placed on first-year students and their transition socially, personally, and academically to college. Through a collaborative effort with the Undergraduate Admissions staff, we develop, plan, and coordinate freshman experience programs that significantly improve the college experience and encourage freshman involvement.
The Office of Student Retention Services continues to assist students as they progress from year to year, with programs that address concerns regarding financial aid, academics, course loads, and campus adjustment. We are available to listen to student concerns and assist, advise, or guide students to the right person or office on campus. We work in close collaboration with all other departments on campus including Academic Support Programs, Admissions, Bursar, Financial Aid, Registration and Records, and Student Affairs to offer personalized attention to our students.
Our main focus is to help students become graduates of Tiffin University!
WHAT WE DO….
ENROLLMENT SERVICES FIRST-YEAR PROGRAM
In conjunction with the Undergraduate Admissions Office, Admissions Counselors will maintain regular contact with all new freshmen during the first year to assist with the adjustment process, provide support and encourage students to make connections and become involved on-campus. Our staff hosts monthly events specific to increasing freshman participation and engagement and conclude the freshman year with the Rising Sophomore Celebration- commemorating the successful completion of the first-year.
SUCCESS COACH PROGRAM
Success Coaches are assigned to all students placed on Academic Probation or Academic Warning to help students adjust to college rigor, assist in locating materials, places, and people on campus, and offer support, encouragement, and positive reinforcement to avoid further academic concerns. These students are required to meet with their Success Coach weekly, as well as visit the Murphy Academic Support Center for academic assistance and/or tutoring.
Each semester, students with account balances over $1000 are placed on registration hold, preventing them from scheduling for the upcoming semester. The Retention Office works individually with these students to overcome financial constraints and help provide additional financial aid options through available grant and loans options. The Dragon Academic Scholarship is available to those students who entered the university without a merit-based scholarship, but have shown considerable academic improvement upon completion of their first semester at Tiffin University. The Dragon Leadership Scholarship is awarded annually to students who demonstrate outstanding leadership and positively contribute to the campus community.
EVENTS & ACTIVITIES
In collaboration with other departments on campus, we host various events to keep our students engaged and informed throughout the year. Welcome Week is hosted twice a year in conjunction with student leaders and organizations, to provide fun and exciting activities to kick-off the start of each semester. The Volunteer Fair, hosted in the fall, invites area community service organizations to campus to provide information regarding volunteer opportunities to assist students in the completion of the co-curricular requirement for graduation. The Discovery Fair, hosted in the spring, invites all departments on campus to provide useful information about what TU has to offer current students including academic support, internships, career development, study abroad options, and much more.
DRAGON PARENT CLUB
The Dragon Parent Club is designed to reinforce the communication and service between the parent, student, and the University. By enrolling in the Dragon Parent Club, parents receive regular communication throughout the year, complete with key dates and events going on throughout campus, as well as helpful resources to assist parents of college students through the college acclimation process. The Dragon Parent Club enables parents to stay directly connected to the University. All parents and extended family are welcome to join us in the early fall for our Family Weekend to further explore campus and the Tiffin community.
