A Student Success Story: Cortney Feehan – “Real Immersion Into The Real World Equals Real Success"

For Tiffin University graduate Cortney Feehan, her Tiffin University education exemplified what it means to say, “real immersion into the real world.”  Add real connections and real community to the mix, and the recipe equals real success.  “The small atmosphere at Tiffin University has had a tremendous impact on my life. The culture of the university invites students to get involved around campus,” Cortney remarks.

Getting involved is exactly what she did during her four years at TU.  She was a member of the Band, Gamma Chi Alpha Sorority, and the Hospitality Club.

But real involvement is just the beginning of Cortney’s story.  She was able to make a real difference at TU, not only for herself, but also for future generations of Tiffin University students.  She helped to create the Lambda Iota Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity.

Cortney’s TU experience led her beyond the physical campus as well.  As a member of the Study Abroad Program, she spent a semester in London, England.  “In addition to taking interesting classes, I had the opportunity to travel to The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, and Ireland.”  This type of real-world engagement meant something very tangible when it came time to look ahead to her future career path.  As Cortney remarks: “The companies which I interviewed with were all very eager to speak with me about my international experiences.”

And it wasn’t just the Study Abroad Program that helped give Cortney a taste of the real world.  With assistance from TU’s Career Services Office and her academic advisor, Cortney attended a presentation about Walt Disney World’s College Program during her junior year.  This led to a summer job at Disney World in Orlando, Florida during the Summer of 2006.

“When it came time to find a job after graduation, I knew I wanted to pursue a career with Disney,” Cortney says.  “With help from my advisor and Career Services, I was able to perfect my resume and prepare for future interviews.”  After a couple of months of interviews with the Walt Disney Company, Cortney was offered a position in the Department of Labor Operations at the Walt Disney World Resorts in Orlando. “I was able to get a terrific start to my career and put my Business Administration degree to great use!”
