Admission Requirements:

International Students applying for admission must submit the following.

  • A completed Application Form with a non-refundable $20.00 (U.S. Currency) application fee.  You can also apply online (the application fee is waived if you apply online).
  • All secondary school academic records officially certified to be true. These records must include grades (marks) and examination certificates or levels earned, and show you have completed (graduated) secondary school. Documents must be stamped "official" or "certified" by a school official.
  • You must also provide an ACT/SAT score to complete your file.  Where English is not the primary language, satisfactory TOEFL score (500PBT/173CBT) or IELTS score of 5 is required.  Tiffin University's TOEFL code is 1817.  For students that do not have TOEFL score or IELTS score, admission into our English Language and American Culture Program is required before you can start your degree program.
  • If you are transferring or have taken any courses from another university, you must send an official grade transcript from that school. Please also send course descriptions as listed in the school prospectus or catalog. You are not required to send originals of any of these records; however, photocopies must be stamped and certified by a school official. These academic records must remain with Tiffin University and cannot be returned.

Documentation of Financial Resources:

Tiffin University offers financial aid to eligible International Students. The Admissions Office and the Financial Aid Office will determine your financial aid eligibility. If you are interested in vocal or instrumental music or athletics, you should contact the departments directly to learn about scholarship opportunities.

You are also required to submit documentation that sufficient financial resources are available from your family or outside sources during the period of your study at Tiffin University. You should submit the University’s Financial Statement, complete with signatures and official seals from sponsors, agencies and governments providing financial support. Family members should submit proof of financial support, such as bank statements or letters from bank officials. If you are sponsored by an agency or government, an official letter of verification from that sponsor must be submitted. The Acceptance Process:

Please send all required items together to prevent delays in the admissions process. When we receive all required documents, we will evaluate your eligibility for admission. If all requirements have been met, and you are determined to be admissible, you will be sent an acceptance letter.

The English Language and American Culture (ELAC) Program

The English Language and American Culture (ELAC) Program is designed to help International Students achieve English proficiency required by your degree programs and expose you to many facets of American culture. The ELAC program provides an all-around training of English-language skills in reading, listening, and writing, which are conducted at three levels: Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced. A placement test will be administered to determine your level of study in the ELAC program.

Students placed in the Intermediate or Advanced level may be permitted to enroll simultaneously in credit courses required by your degree program. The ELAC program also offers comprehensive orientation that prepares our International Students for university studies and campus life. Students in the ELAC have full access to Tiffin University facilities, including Computer Labs, Dining Facilities, the Fitness Center, Learning Center, and the Library.

Application Deadlines

Information may be sent by fax at (419) 443-5006, or via email at grovejm@tiffin.edu to speed up the process.

Passport and Visa:

You should obtain a passport from your government. Students accepted by Tiffin University enter on a Student Visa (F-1). Once you have been accepted and send the necessary deposits, a Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20) will be sent and should be used to obtain the F-1 Visa. You should contact the nearest American Consulate or Embassy for instructions on how to apply for a Visa. The U.S. Consul will require you to document that you have sufficient financial resources to provide for the total cost of your education, and that you intend to return to your home country upon completion of your education.

Important To Note:

DO NOT enter the U.S. on a visitor (tourist) visa (B-2), unless it is designated "Prospective Student" by the Consular Officer. The U.S. Immigration Service rarely authorizes a change in status from B-2 to F-1, and you will be required to return home to do so.
