Dragons pitching struggles in sweep by NorthwoodTiffin University (3-17) had the offense working again in their home opener but could not get solid pitching in either game of their doubleheader with Northwood, falling in the opener 14-11 and in the nightcap 11-9. In the first game, TU and Northwood traded shots early but the Dragons rallied to hold a four-run lead in the sixth inning. Northwood came back to tie the game in the sixth inning but the Dragons answered with a 3-run home run by Pat Curtin to take a 11-8 lead into the seventh inning. Things fell apart in the seventh, though, as the Dragons bullpen gave up 6 earned runs in 1.1 innings of work to take the loss. Kyle Blackford was the losing pitcher in relief. Jason Bailey had 3 hits with a double for 2 RBI, while Ty Blake, Corey Hornyak, Colin Lowe, and Curtin all had two hits. In the nightcap, the Dragons trailed 9-1 to start the game but came roaring back in the fifth and sixth innings, tallying 5 runs in the sixth inning to tie the score at 9-9 heading to the seventh. Northwood rallied to score two runs to win the game, making a loser of Jason Higgins after 2.1 innings of relief. Lowe added 3 hits with a double for 2 RBI while Val Helldobler had 2 hits for 2 RBI, Devin Rudolph had 2 hits, and Tom Touris had a double. Dragons fall at Walsh 7-2Tiffin University (4-6) managed just two wins at Walsh as they fell 7-2. Harry Smith won at second singles 6-3, 6-4 while the doubles team of Andres Torres/Ryan Toporowsky also won 8-4. Brian Coffman/Luiz Carvalho fell in a close doubles match 6-8 while Coffman and Santiago Revelo also lost three set singles matches.TU drops 21-8 decision to WittenbergTiffin University (0-3) trailed 12-6 at the half but could not make up the difference in the second half of a 21-8 loss at Wittenberg. Emily Miller tallied 6 goals to lead the Dragons, who also had goals from Allyn Saling and Kelley Miller. Jessica Oliver registered 16 saves while taking the loss in goal. Wittenberg held a 40-17 shot advantage and also beat the Dragons in ground balls 43-34.Two equestrian riders reach National Semifinals (more)Dragons take second at Tucson InviteTiffin University's men's golf team competed in the TIG#4 Invitational at Catalina GC in Tucson AZ, finishing second of six teams. The Dragons fired a 317 to trail only Union's 297. Dillon Klein finished fourth with a 77 while Justin Epure was 10th with 79.
