TU announces Dragon Radio featuring three live events
Tiffin University is proud to announce the debut of Dragon Radio Live, a monthly radio program that will broadcast live from Madison Street Pub and Grub on Oct. 5 from 6-7 p.m. The show is part of a continuing partnership between Tiffin University and WMJK 100.9 FM and provides insight into Dragons Athletics as well as highlights the continuing development of the program and institution through the construction of the new Recreation Center and other initiatives. Alumni and Friends of the University are invited to join in the fun of a "live" show. Doors open at 5 p.m.
WMJK is the home of Dragons football, broadcasting all 11 games while
also providing an internet stream for fans to listen to abroad. Dragons
Radio will be a monthly feature highlighting all Dragons Athletic teams
along with their sponsors and supporters, with a total of three
broadcasts being live events from local establishments. Future live
broadcasts are scheduled for Nov. 16 at T.J. Willies and March 15 at
Madison Street Pub and Grub. Voice of the Dragons Frank Barber,
entering his 15th year working with Tiffin University, is the host of
the show, while a wide variety of coaches, administrators, and players
will receive exposure and provide interesting insight into Tiffin
University.
Total of 76 athletes earn Spring GLIAC Academic honors
Tiffin University had 76 spring athletes that landed GLIAC All-Academic honors, as the conference announced its spring academic honorees. Overall 565 GLIAC athletes were honored. Baseball (22) and Men's Track (23) had the most honored sports in the conference in their respective sports. For the complete list, click here.

Blake named Second Team All-Region
Tiffin University's Ty Blake was named Second Team All-Midwest Region by vote of the American Baseball Coaches Association. Blake had a strong season for the Dragons, leading them in average with a .402 mark while setting a new single season record with 70 hits. He also led the team in doubles with 15 and was third in RBI with 41. Blake had previously been named Second Team All-GLIAC while also earning GLIAC Player of the Week honors during the season. Dragons win big on Senior Day, finish season with 14-4 victory
Tiffin University (20-31-1) put up a big 14-4 victory over Hillsdale on Senior Day as they ended their 2009 season. Senior Kenny Shaw got the start and tossed 7.2 innings of 6 hit ball, allowing 2 earned runs. TU jumped out to a 11-1 lead after three innings and never looked back, banging out 18 hits in the win. Senior pitcher Eric Ludrowsky got the start at first base, collecting 2 hits. He finished his season with 66 strikeouts, a new TU single season record. Ty Blake also had a big day, collecting 2 hits for 5 RBI with a double. His two hits give him 70 for the season, another new TU single season record. Senior Pete Catalano also got in on the action with 2 hits, while Tom Touris had 4 hits with a double. Jason Bailey had 3 hits for 2 RBI and Adam Greening had 2 hits. Tiffin University (19-31-1) scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 6th inning, beating Hillsdale in the opener 8-7 before falling in the nightcap 7-1 in the season's final doubleheader. Travis Colliver got the win in relief while Lee Kerns picked up the save. Adam Greening had 3 hits with a double, while Jason Bailey, Val Helldobler, and Bobby Mullin all had two hits. Mullin and Jordan Chiero drilled home runs, while Helldobler and Ty Blake had doubles. In the finale, Pat Curtin got off to a rough start on the mound, allowing 6 runs in the first three innings to take the loss. Jason Bailey had 2 more hits, as TU managed 7 singles in the game. University (18-30-1) trailed 7-1 in the second game of a doubleheader with Ashland before erupting for 6 runs all with two out, forcing extra innings before the game was called with the score 7-7 in the 9th inning due to rain. Tom Podulka tossed 6 innings in his start, allowing 3 earned runs in a no-decision. Val Helldobler had 2 hits for 2 RBI while Jason Bailey also had 2 RBI. Bobby Mullin added 2 hits with a double, while Colin Lowe also had 2 hits. In the opener, Ashland won 7-2, scoring 4 runs in the 5th inning to break the game open. posted a 12-run 8th inning, breaking open a close 4-3 ball game on the way to a 19-7 blowout of Findlay. Donnie Smith picked up the win, tossing 6.2 innings and allowing just 2 earned runs. (17-29) had a rough first game, falling 13-1, before suffering through a bullpen collapse in the second game, falling 10-9. In the second game, TU held a 9-5 lead in the 6th inning before allowing 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th. Travis Colliver took the loss, allowing 4 runs in .1 inning of work. Lake Erie made a run in the 7th inning, scoring 4 runs, but Lee Kerns came in to get the save over .2 innings. Jason Bailey had 2 hits with a home run for 3 RBI, Jason Kulp had 3 hits for 2 RBI, and Ty Blake and Trevor Johnson had 2 hits each. In the opener, the Warriors scored two runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to sneak out the victory. Tom Podulka took the loss after 5.2 innings of work, allowing 8 earned runs. TU won the opener 4-3 with Eric Ludrowsky tossing 6.1 innings and allowing one earned run while Kyle Klinker came in in the 7th inning and got the save, stopping Hillsdale with the tying run on third base. TU scored three runs in the fifth inning, with Val Helldobler getting two hits with a double, Colin Lowe getting two hits with a home run, and Devin Rudolph hitting a double. (12-25) dropped the opening game at Grand Valley State 9-1, mustering just 3 singles and committing 4 errors, but bounced back nicely in game two, winning 12-3. University (11-24) dropped a 7-6 decision in 8 innings at Ashland, then fell 9-5 in game two. In the opener, Brad Davis took the loss in relief of Eric Ludrowsky. TU battled back to score two runs in the 7th inning to force the extra inning, but Davis allowed the winning run to Ashland after 2.2 innings of relief. Ludrowsky pitched the first 5 innings. Devin Rudolph had 3 hits while Ty Blake had 2 hits for 2 RBI. Bobby Mullin also had 2 hits. Tiffin University (11-21) dropped two heartbreakers, falling 9-7 in 8 innings to Findlay before falling 4-3 in 8 innings in the nightcap. In the operner, TU left 10 runners on base during the game. Trailing by three in the bottom of the seventh, Colin Lowe drilled a two-out, three run home run to tie the game and send it into extra frames. But the Oilers scored four in the top of the 8th to go ahead by four runs. TU came back to score two more in the bottom of the 8th but could not tie the game despite bringing the tying run to the plate. Jason Higgins took the loss in relief, while Ty Blake had 4 hits with a double, Val Helldobler had 3 hits, and Adam Greening had 2 hits. Dragons fall 4-3 in 15 innings as winning streak ends
Tiffin University (11-19) scored 2 runs in the 7th inning to tie
the score at 3-3, but could not push the go-ahead run across
despite numerous opportunities in extra innings, eventually falling
4-3 in 15 innings. Eric Ludrowsky started the game, pitching 6
innings and allowing 2 earned runs with 8 strikeouts, while Trevor
Woodjets took the tough luck loss after a sparkling 8.1 innings of
relief. He allowed one earned run with 7 strikeouts. Trevor Johnson
had a double in the 7th inning for 2 RBI, while Devin Rudolph, Ty

Tiffin University (11-18) continued their hot play of late,
sweeping Saginaw Valley State on the road by scores of 20-8 and
6-1. In the nightcap, Donnie Smith tossed a complete game
two-hitter in a strong outing while TU collected 13 hits. Bobby
Mullin had 3 hits with a double for 2 RBI, while Devin Rudolph, Val
Helldobler, and Jason Bailey had 2 hits each. Pat Curtin also had a
double. In the opener, TU banged out 22 hits and scored 10 runs in
the second inning to jump out early. Travis Colliver got the win
with 4 innings of relief, allowing 2 earned runs. Ty Blake had 3
hits with 2 doubles and a home run for 4 RBI, Mullin added 3 hits
with a home run for 3 RBI, and Colin Lowe had 2 hits with a double

Tiffin University (9-18) scored 42 runs in a doubleheader sweep of
Northwood, winning the opener 23-6 and the nightcap 19-15. Eric
Ludrowsky got the win in the opener, allowing 2 earned runs and
fanning 10 while scattering 6 hits, but it was the offense that
took off like a rocket. Pat Curtin had 8 RBI with 3 hits including
a triple and home run. TU scored 11 runs in the 4th inning and 12
runs in the first two innings. Jason Bailey drilled a grand slame,
while Devin Rudolph had 3 hits for 2 RBI with a double and home
run. Tom Touris had 3 hits for 2 RBI and Trevor Johnson had 3 hits.
In the second game, Kyle Klinker got the win with one inning of
relief, as TU scored 8 runs in the 6th inning for the win. Ty Blake
had 5 hits for 5 RBI including a triple and home run, while Pat
Curtin continued his big day with 3 hits for 3 RBI including 2

Tiffin University (7-18) got strong pitching from their starters and their bullpen in posting a sweep of 29th-ranked Indianapolis 5-4 in the opener and 3-2 in the nightcap. Tom Podulka got the win in game one, going 4 innings and allowing one earned run while Kyle Klinker pitched three innings of relief for the save. Jason Bailey led the Dragons with two hits including a double. In the nightcap, Donnie Smith got the win, tossing 5 innings of 4 hit ball while Kenny Shaw tossed 2 innings to get the save. Shaw inherited a bases-loaded, no out situation and got out of it allowing just one run on a walk. Colin Lowe had two hits with a double while Devin Rudolph also had a triple.
Lakers complete sweep of Dragons 8-1
Tiffin University (5-18) fell to top-ranked Grand Valley State 8-1 as the Lakers finished a three-game sweep of TU. TU managed just 6 hits on the day, with Colin Lowe getting two singles and Devin Rudolph the lone RBI with a run on a single in the 7th inning that made the score 5-1. But the Lakers added three more runs over the final two innings to put the game out of reach. Pat Curtin started and took the loss for TU, pitching 5.1 innings. The Lakers pitching staff registered 12 strikeouts on the day.

Tiffin University (5-17) took on the top-ranked team in the nation
as Grand Valley State came to Heminger Field, and the Lakers pulled
out two victories, winning game one 5-2 and taking the nightcap
8-3. In the opener, Eric Ludrowsky went the distance and fanned 13
in a losing effort. The Dragons jumped out to a 2-0 lead early but
could not hold on for the win. Bobby Mullin led TU with 2 hits
including a double while Adam Greening also had 2 hits. In game
two, Trevor Woodjets also went 7 innings, allowing 4 earned runs in
taking the loss. TU managed just 5 hits, with Colin Lowe getting 2
hits. Grand Valley scored 3 runs in the 5th inning to break open a

Tiffin University (5-15) held a 4-0 lead in the 6th inning of game one against Wayne State, but the Warriors came back to score 4 runs to tie and two more in the 7th inning to pull out a 6-4 victory. The Warriors then scored runs in bunches to beat TU in game two 15-5. Tom Podulka pitched well in the opener but got a no-decision as Jason Higgins took the loss. Donnie Smith took the loss in game two. Val Helldobler had two hits with a double and 3 RBI in the opener, while Pat Curtin also had two hits with a double. Adam Greening had two singles. In the nightcap, Helldobler had two more hits while Ty Blake and Tom Touris had doubles.
Dragons lose 2-run lead in 9th, fall 4-3 at Northwood
Tiffin University (5-13) held a 3-1 lead in the 9th inning with 2
outs against Northwood after a great outing from Eric Ludrowsky,
but the Timberwolves scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th to win
4-3. Ludrowsky tossed a 3-hit, 10 strikeout gem over 7 innings, but
Travis Colliver took the loss in relief. Devin Rudolph had 2 hits,
with Bobby Mullin also getting a double, as TU managed just 6 hits
on the day.Dragons offense stalls in pair of losses at Northwood
Tiffin University (5-12) managed just 5 hits in each of two losses
at Northwood, falling in game one 6-2 and in then nightcap 5-1. TU
had just one extra base hit by Ty Blake in the first game. Kyle
Klinker took the loss in game one, going 2.1 innings and allowing 5
earned runs. In the nightcap, Colin Lowe had 2 hits but Northwood
managed to score 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to pick up
the win. Trevor Woodjets took the loss, pitching 5.2 innings. "We
did not come ready to play today. We could not get anything
going on offense and did not execute when we needed to.
Donnie Smith came in relief for Kyle Klinker and threw very
well. In Game 2, Trevor Woodjetts started and threw great in
the loss," said Head Coach Lonny Allen. Dragons post sweep of Cardinals in GLIAC opener
Tiffin University (5-10) posted a doubleheader sweep of Saginaw
Valley State in their home opener, winning the opener 2-1 in 9
innings on Val Helldobler's game-winning single with two outs, then
turning around and winning the nightcap 9-5, scoring 4 runs in the
bottom of the 6th inning as TU turned up the offense with 14 hits.
In the first game, Eric Ludrowsky pitched 5.2 innings and allowed 4
hits in the no-decision as Jason Higgins got the win in relief.
Helldobler and Pat Curtin had 2 hits each, with Curtin getting a
double. "Helldobler came through with a huge hit as a freshman,"
Head Coach Lonny Allen said. "Our pitching was great, and to be
able to start out 2-0 in the GLIAC is great." In the finale, Ty
Blake led the way with 3 hits while Devin Rudolph, Bobby Mullin,
Colin Lowe, and Curtin had 2 hits each. Travis Colliver got the win
with 1.1 innings of relief work. "Our guys came out ready to
play," said Coach Allen. "The relief pitching in both games
was excellent. We showed we were not satisfied with just one
win."Dragons comeback for naught in 6-5 loss
Tiffin University (3-10), trailing 3-0 entering the 9th inning,
rallied to score 5 runs and take a 5-3 lead heading to the bottom
of the 9th. But Savannah College of Art and Design rallied for
three runs of their own, nipping the Dragons 6-5 in TU's final
Florida game. Kenny Shaw took the loss with one-third of an inning
of work, while Trevor Woodjets started and got the no decision.

Tiffin University (3-9) had a tough day against Jamestown, dropping
the opener 7-5 and the nightcap 26-13. In game one, Eric Ludrowsky
took the loss, tossing 3.1 innings and allowing 7 earned runs over
the first two innings. Adam Greening ahd Colin Lowe each had two
hits, with Lowe hitting a triple. In game two, Kyle Klinker took
the loss, as Jamestown jumped out with 8 runs in the first inning
and scored runs in bunches throughout the game. Jordan Chiero
drilled a home run and had two hits, while Trevor Woodjets reached
base four times with two hits and two walks. Jason Bailey also had
2 hits with a double and Ty Blake added a double for 2 RBI.Dragons drop 11-6 decision to St. Francis
Tiffin University (3-7) battled back from a 6-1 deficit to tie the
game in the 7th inning but fell apart in the 8th inning in falling
to St. Francis IL 11-6. Tom Podulka started for the Dragons and
pitched 5 innings for the no-decision, while Kenny Shaw got the
loss over one inning of relief. Trevor Johnson had 2 hits while
Bobby Mullin reached three times with a single and 2 walks. Colin
Lowe also reached base three times with 2 walks and a hit by pitch.
"Podulka pitched well considering how poorly his team played behind
him," said Head Coach Lonny Allen. "We didn't play well defensively
or at the plate and it cost us." Dragons post 4-run 8th inning to notch comeback win against St.
Francis 6-4
Tiffin University (3-6) trailed 4-2 in the 8th inning but turned on
the offense, scoring 4 runs to post a come-from-behind 6-4 win over
St. Francis IN in their Florida opener. Brad Davis got the relief
win, tossing 3.1 innings in relief of Pat Curtin. Curtin was solid
over 5.2 innings for the no-decision, while Eric Ludrowsky came in
in the 9th inning for the save. Devin Rudolph, Val Helldobler, and
Jason Bailey all had 2 hits for TU. "This was a great team win,"
said Head Coach Lonny Allen. "We didn't really start to turn it on
until the 8th inning. Davis was great in relief and Ludrowsky shut
the door in the ninth, throwing strikes like an ace."Dragons drop third straight to Valdosta State with doubleheader losses
Tiffin University (2-6) dropped the opening game of a doubleheader at Valdosta State, as VSU used a 8-run third inning to jump ahead and never look back en route to a 16-5 win. Trevor Woodjets had a tough day on the mound, allowing 13 earned runs with 4 hit batters, 2 walks, and 9 hits over 2.2 innings. TU did bang out 14 hits but could never come up with the clutch hit to keep pace with VSU. Bobby Mullin and Ty Blake had 2 hits each with an RBI, while Val Helldobler and Tom Touris also had 2 hits. In the nightcap, Valdosta State broke open a 2-2 3rd inning tie with 9 runs in the frame, eventually winning 13-3 in 6 innings. Tiffin University (2-4) dropped the first of three games at Valdosta State en route to their Florida spring trip, losing the night game 22-2. Dragons starter Kyle Klinker got off on the wrong foot in the first inning, allowing 7 earned runs in two-thirds of an inning as the Dragons allowed 16 hits in the game. Tiffin University Baseball (2-3) won the first game of the doubleheader against Northern Kentucky University with Eric Ludrowsky pitching a complete game 3-2 win. Ty Blake led the Dragons, going 3 for 4 with a double and a run while Colin Lowe went 2 for 3 with two singles and a run. Eric Ludrowsky battled the Norse, allowing only one walk while striking out three batters over 7 innings. The Dragons defense followed Ludrowsky's lead, committing no errors while turning two double plays. "Eric pitched well," said Head Coach Lonny Allen. "It's what we expect from our ace. We made the plays defensivly that we needed. If we pitch like he did and scratch a few runs we should put ourselves in a position to win." In game two, the Dragons fell 11-4, as starter Tom Podulka allowed 8 earned runs. Blake and Colin Lowe each had 2 RBI with home runs. "It started off exactly how you want scoring 4 in the first. But we did not do our jobs defensively or on the mound the rest of the game," said Coach Allen.
Weather forces Dragons to stay home
The Dragons Baseball team have cancelled the weekend series at West Virginia State University due to inclement weather. The Dragons will be back in action March 6 as they take on Northern Kentucky University on their spring break trip.

Dragons fall in rubber game 16-3 to Slippery Rock
Tiffin University (1-2) couldn't take the deciding game of the three-game opening season set with Slippery Rock, falling 16-3. Tiffin opened with 2 runs in the first inning but then the offense went dry, not managing another run until the 8th inning. The Rock, however, was shut down for the first three innings by starting pitcher Kyle Klinker. Klinker fell apart in the fourth inning, however, not making it out of the inning before allowing 7 earned runs in taking the loss. TU managed just 8 hits on the day, with Jason Bailey and Val Helldobler getting the only extra base hits with doubles. Helldobler had 3 hits in the game.Dragons blast the Rock 26-9 for first winTiffin University (1-1) opened up the offensive floodgates, deluging Slippery Rock in runs for their first win of 2009 26-9. Tom Podulka got the win, pitching 4.1 innings, but it was the Dragons bats that exploded for 26 hits in the 9 inning contest. Bobby Mullin and Ty Blake had 4 hits, Tom Touris, Jason Bailey, Val Helldobler, and Colin Lowe had 3 hits each, and Adam Greening and Pat Curtin had 2 hits apiece. Helldobler and Lowe had 5 RBIs to lead TU, with Lowe drilling 2 home runs and Helldobler adding a solo shot. TU also had 6 doubles and 9 walks in the game.
Dragons drop opener against Slippery Rock
Tiffin University (0-1) fell in its opener against Slippery Rock at Chillicothe 11-6. Eric Ludrowsky took the loss, tossing 5 innings and allowing 6 earned runs with 8 hits. Jason Bailey had 5 hits to lead a 14-hit attack by the Dragons offense, while Devin Rudolph also had 2 doubles. Bailey and Kulp also had doubles. TU led 5-3 after three innings but were outscored 8-1 over the remainder of the 9-inning game.
Dragons continue community involvementTiffin University's baseball team recently helped the local Tiffin YMCA and the Y-Wives organization with fundraising efforts. A total of 49 players were involved over a three-day period, helping to set up tables and merchandise, cleaning up the event at its completion, and also moving gymnastic equipment for the overall event. The team plans on continuing with more community involvement in the future.
Dragons open season against Slippery Rock
The Tiffin University Baseball team opens up the 2009 season in Chillicothe, Ohio. The Dragons play Slippery Rock University in a three game weekend series in the Chillicothe Paints stadium. Parent's Day opens up Fall World SeriesThe first two games of the Dragons Fall World Series were played this past Saturday at Heminger Field. Both games were played in front of a crowd of over 200 family members on the sunny Saturday afternoon. In game one, the gray team fell to the green team by a score of 7-1. Gray jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning when Tyler Jackson scored on Ty Blake's fielder’s choice. Green responded in the 5th inning scoring all 7 of the runs. Eric Ludrowsky and Colin Lowe had RBI singles in the inning. Eric Ludrowsky picked up the victory, moving the green squad to 1-0. Pete Catalano took the loss and Gray stands at 0-1. Matt Rowland went 2-3 for the Green team while Adam Greening and Jason Bailey collected two hits apiece for the Gray team.
Game 2 on the day saw a similar result as game 1. The White team defeated the Gold team by a final score of 6-2. White jumped on the Gold team early 2-0 and never let up. Jonathan Campriana started the game off with a single. Val Helldobler plated Campriana by knocking a triple into right-center field. Helldobler then scored when Kyle Leggett singled up the middle. White was able to add two more runs in the second when Brad Manders singled and later scored as Reese Montesano reached base via an error. Campriana then drove in Reese Montesano with a double. The scoring ended for the White team in the 8th inning. Helldobler singled with one out and the big hit of the day came off the bat of Bobby Mullin. Mullin hit a 2-1 pitch over the fence for a 2-run home run. Gold attempted a comeback in the top of the 8th as Aaron White and Zach McCutcheon singled to start the inning off. With one out, Devin Rudolph picked up 2 RBIs, with a single, making the score 6-2. Brad Davis earned the victory on the mound moving the White team to 1-0. Trevor Woodjetts suffered the loss and the Gold squad falls to 0-1. McCutcheon led the Gold team going 2-4. Campriana and Helldobler paced the White squad with 2-for-4 days at the plate.
Robbins named All-Region performer
Tiffin University's Paul Robbins was named Rawlings/ABCA Second Team All-North Central Region by vote of the region baseball coaches. Robbins was the Dragons top offensive performer, leading the team in average, hits, doubles, home runs, and RBI. He finished his Dragons career with the single season and career record for doubles while also posting the highest career batting average in TU history with a .417 mark.
