Kulp's double, strong bullpen get Dragons first victory

Tiffin University (1-2) pulled out the nightcap at West Georgia, rallying to win 9-6 in 12 innings after dropping the opener 12-3. In the Dragons victory, Jason Kulp came through with a 3-run double in the 12th inning to give TU the victory, but it was the Dragons bullpen that came through even more. TU's pen tossed 8.2 innings of shutout relief after 5 earned runs were allowed by starter Trevor Woodjetts in 3.1 innings. Cory Hornyak got the win, pitching 6 shutout innings while Brock Mitchell picked up the save.

TU scored 4 runs in the 6th inning to tie the game at 6-6. Overall, TU banged out 14 hits on the day, with Colin Lowe getting 3 hits, Val Helldobler (2 hits, 2 RBI), Kyle Blackford (2 RBI), and Ty Blake (2 hits, double) leading the way. Pat Curtin (2 hits), Hornyak (2 hits) and Bobby Mullin (double) also played well.

In the opener, TU managed just 5 hits while Donnie Smith took the loss after allowing 6 earned runs in 1 inning. West Georgia led 9-0 after 2 innings. Tom Touris had a double and RBI. 

TU falls to West Georgia in season opener 11-8

Tiffin University (0-1) dropped its opening game of the 2010 season, falling at West Georgia 11-8. Dragons starter Doug Berlan didn't get out of the first inning after suffering an injury. Freshman Kyle Blackford came in in relief and took the loss as the two teams banged out 14 hits apiece. Val Helldobler had 3 hits with 2 RBI, while Cory Hornyak had 2 doubles for 3 RBI. Colin Lowe also had 2 hits for 2 RBI, with Devin Rudolph and Pat Curtin also getting 2 hits each. Jason Bailey added an RBI double. The Dragons will now play West Georgia in a doubleheader starting at 11 am tomorrow.


TU announces Dragon Radio featuring three live events

Tiffin University is proud to announce the debut of Dragon Radio Live, a monthly radio program that will broadcast live from Madison Street Pub and Grub on Oct. 5 from 6-7 p.m. The show is part of a continuing partnership between Tiffin University and WMJK 100.9 FM and provides insight into Dragons Athletics as well as highlights the continuing development of the program and institution through the construction of the new  Recreation Center and other initiatives. Alumni and Friends of the University are invited to join in the fun of a "live" show. Doors open at 5 p.m.


WMJK is the home of Dragons football, broadcasting all 11 games while also providing an internet stream for fans to listen to abroad. Dragons Radio will be a monthly feature highlighting all Dragons Athletic teams along with their sponsors and supporters, with a total of three broadcasts being live events from local establishments. Future live broadcasts are scheduled for Nov. 16 at T.J. Willies and March 15 at Madison Street Pub and Grub. Voice of the Dragons Frank Barber, entering his 15th year working with Tiffin University, is the host of the show, while a wide variety of coaches, administrators, and players will receive exposure and provide interesting insight into Tiffin University.

Total of 76 athletes earn Spring GLIAC Academic honors

Tiffin University had 76 spring athletes that landed GLIAC All-Academic honors, as the conference announced its spring academic honorees. Overall 565 GLIAC athletes were honored. Baseball (22) and Men's Track (23) had the most honored sports in the conference in their respective sports. For the complete list, click here.

Blake named Second Team All-Region

Tiffin University's Ty Blake was named Second Team All-Midwest Region by vote of the American Baseball Coaches Association. Blake had a strong season for the Dragons, leading them in average with a .402 mark while setting a new single season record with 70 hits. He also led the team in doubles with 15 and was third in RBI with 41. Blake had previously been named Second Team All-GLIAC while also earning GLIAC Player of the Week honors during the season.
