Dragons fall to top-ranked Oilers in season finale 77-50

Tiffin University (2-25, 1-21 GLIAC) dropped behind early against the top-ranked Findlay Oilers, trailing 43-22 at the half en route to a 77-50 loss in their season finale. The Oilers shot 53 percent from the floor while TU mustered just 37 percent. The Oilers also had good success from three point, hitting 11 treys to TU's 4. Alex Strok posted 11 points while Donnell Patterson (11 points) and Brian Scott (10 points) also had double figures. Mohammed Fall had 12 points and 8 rebounds, while Rafael Cuellar also had 9 rebounds.

Big first half for Chargers leads to TU defeat 96-54

Tiffin University (2-24, 1-20 GLIAC) fell behind 56-23 at the half as Hillsdale downed the Dragons 96-54. Hillsdale blistered the nets for 56 percent from the field while TU shot just 35 percent. Hillsdale also controlled the rebounds 44-29. Donnell Patterson and Rafael Cuellar led the Dragons with 11 points each while Phillip Brooks had 9 rebounds.

Dragons fall after disappointing second half 57-43 to Warriors

Tiffin University (2-23, 1-19 GLIAC) trailed just 25-24 at the half but never found a way to control the rebounding advantage by Wayne State, as the Warriors controlled the boards 41-23 en route to a 57-43 win. The Warriors outscored TU 32-19 in the second half, shooting 45 percent while TU fired just 26 percent after the break. Brian Scott and Darryle Miller were the top scorers for TU with 9 points each. 

Dragons fail to get off last shot, fall 61-60 to Northwood

Tiffin University (2-22, 1-18 GLIAC) held a 28-21 halftime lead and opened strong against Northwood but couldn't hold on as the Timberwolves came back to just nip TU 61-60. The Dragons and Northwood played a back and forth contest throughout the second half with TU refusing to quit. Northwood turned the ball over with 20 seconds left and leading by a point, but TU could not manage to get a shot off before turning the ball over with 1 second remaining. Brian Scott led TU with 18 points while Alex Strok had 15 points. Rafael Cuellar added 10 points while Darryle Miller had 9 points and 8 rebounds. 

Dragons lose battle of the boards, fall 91-62

Tiffin University (2-21, 1-17 GLIAC) couldn't handle Saginaw Valley State inside, as the Cardinals outrebounded TU 50-33 en route to a 91-62 final score. Saginaw Valley State jumped out to a 34-19 halftime lead and held TU to 35 percent field goal shooting. The Cardinals also hit well from beyond the three point arc, hitting 13 three point shots to TU's 5. Brian Scott led TU with 18 points while Darryle Miller was the only other player in double figures with 16 points and 7 rebounds.

Lakers control tempo, streak past Dragons 89-59

Tiffin University (2-20, 1-16 GLIAC) couldn't handle Lake Superior State, falling behind 38-23 at the half and eventually losing 89-59. TU shot just 35 percent in the game and was outrebounded 48-28. The Lakers held a 12-5 advantage from three point and also hit 29 free throws to TU's 12. Donnell Patterson led TU with 15 points, while Rafael Cuellar had 13 points and Alex Strok 11.

Wildcats win game with solid second half as TU falls 77-58

Tiffin University (2-19, 1-15 GLIAC) trailed just 34-27 at the half, but Northern Michigan heated up in the second half, outscoring TU 43-31 over the final 20 minutes to win 77-58. NMU shot 54 percent in the second half, while TU held steady at 37 percent in the game. The Wildcats also drilled 13 three pointers on 26 attempts to keep themselves separated from the Dragons. Alex Strok had 22 points while Rafael Cuellar added 16 points with 8 rebounds. 

Dragons fall apart in final 10 minutes, lose 63-46

Tiffin University (2-18, 1-14 GLIAC) pulled to within 3 points with 10 minutes to play but fell apart over the last 9 minutes, as Michigan Tech won 63-46. The Dragons trailed 34-24 at the half but kept the game close throughout. TU was outrebounded 36-17, while the Huskies drilled 8 of 17 three pointers. Mohammed Fall was the lone player in double figures to TU with 14 points. TU mustered just 34 percent shooting while the Huskies clicked at a 51 percent clip. 

Dragons end 15-game losing streak with win at Northwood

Tiffin University (2-17, 1-13 GLIAC) took advantage of 25 Northwood turnovers to end a 15-game losing streak and post a 71-64 win. The game was tied 63-63 with 1:30 to play but the Dragons forced 3 turnovers in the final 30 seconds of play and converted offensively to pull the game out. TU also took care of the ball, committing just 11 turnovers. Alex Strok and Donnell Patterson led TU with 15 points each, while Rafael Cuellar added 14 points and 6 rebounds and Brian Scott gave TU four players in double figures with 12 points.

Shooting woes, rebounding sink Dragons at Wayne State

Tiffin University (1-17, 0-13 GLIAC) fell behind 41-24 at halftime and could not catch up, eventually falling 75-50. The Dragons shot just 36 percent from the field to Wayne State's 52 percent, with the Warriors  holding a 26-2 advantage in points off turnovers. Wayne State also dominated the rebounds 45-24. Alex Strok led TU with a solid second half leading to 14 points while Darryle Miller had 13 points and 7 rebounds. Rafael Cuellar also had 9 points.

Dragons no match for Hillsdale 91-49

Tiffin University (1-16, 0-12 GLIAC) quickly found themselves down against Hillsdale, trailing 45-22 at the half and eventually falling 91-49. TU shot just 31 percent in the game and had 20 turnovers while getting outrebounded 40-28. Alex Strok led TU offensively with 12 points and was the lone player in double figures.

Top-ranked Findlay smacks Dragons 106-65

Tiffin University (1-15, 0-11 GLIAC) took on the nation's top ranked team in the University of Findlay, and the Oilers lived up to their billing, winning 106-65. The Oilers shot 61 percent in the game and controlled every facet of the game, outrebounding TU 46-27 and forcing 21 turnovers. They held a 22-9 free throw advantage and outscored TU 51-29 in the first half. Donnell Patterson led TU with 21 points while Rafael Cuellar had 14 points and Alex Strok had 12 points.

Grand Valley shoots down Dragons 89-54

Tiffin University (1-14, 0-10 GLIAC) trailed by 10 at halftime and were outpaced in the second half by a hot shooting Grand Valley State team, eventually falling 89-54. Grand Valley shot 62 percent in the game and controlled the tempo throughout, as TU was held by 32 percent shooting. The Lakers outrebounded TU 40-27 and outscored TU in the second half 45-20. Alex Strok led TU with 13 points while Donnell Patterson had 12 points. Rafael Cuellar added 9 points.

Ferris State controls tempo in win over Dragons

Tiffin University (1-13, 0-9 GLIAC) couldn't keep up with Ferris State, as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 54-28 halftime lead and went on to win 98-63. FSU held a 42-28 rebounding advantage. Alex Strok led TU with 14 points while Donnell Patterson had 12 points. Rafael Cuellar also had 8 points and 7 rebounds.

Michigan Tech streaks past Dragons 84-53

Tiffin University (1-12, 0-8 GLIAC) trailed 34-26 at halftime but a familiar theme returned in the second half as MTU outscored TU 50-27 the rest of the way, eventually winning 84-53. TU could not hit consistently from the field, shooting just 34 percent while MTU controlled the rebounding edge 42-30 and hit 19 free throws to Tiffin's 6. Rafael Cuellar led TU with 16 points and 6 rebounds, while Alex Strok had 13 and Daryll Stinson 9.

Northern Michigan uses strong second half to beat Dragons 92-70

Tiffin University (1-11, 0-7 GLIAC) was within a point at halftime but Northern Michigan took off like a rocket in the second half, outscoring the Dragons 60-37 after the break en route to a 92-70 win. The Wildcats shot 55 percent in the game and scored 22 points off of turnovers. Rafael Cuellar led TU with 15 points and 9 rebounds while Donnell Patterson also had 15 points. Mohammed Fall had 13 points and Alex Strok also landed in double figures with 12 points.

Foul line kills Dragons in close 76-69 loss to Ashland

Tiffin University (1-10, 0-6 GLIAC) led all the way up to the 7:00 mark of the second half but could not overcome a 28-9 foul differential leading to 16 more free throws for Ashland, as the Dragons fell 76-69. TU held a 43-37 halftime edge and played hard throughout, but the Eagles had a huge advantage at the line, hitting 21 free throws to TU's 5. TU, which shot 50 percent in the first half, hit just 27 percent from the floor in the second half, largely over the final 10 minutes of the game. Alex Strok led the team with 17 points, while Brian Scott and Donnell Patterson had 15 points apiece. Rafael Cuellar had 9 points with 7 rebounds.

Turnovers lead to 107-58 loss to 18th-ranked Southern Indiana

Tiffin University (1-9, 0-5 GLIAC) committed 34 turnovers including 24 in the first half, as Southern Indiana raced past the Dragons 107-58. USI jumped out to a 57-26 halftime edge, taking advantage of numerous turnovers in amassing their lead. The Eagles also held a 42-30 rebounding edge. Alex Strok led the Dragons with 11 points (9 at halftime), while Rafael Cuellar had 10 points.

Shooting woes continue as Dragons fall to Lakers 74-47

Tiffin University (1-8, 0-5 GLIAC) shot 30 percent for the game, including 3 for 19 from three point, as Lake Superior State won 74-47. The Lakers opened on a 20-4 run and never looked back, leading 37-23 at the half. The Lakers shot 53 percent after the break. TU was led by Alex Strok with 19 points while Darryle Miller was the only other player in double figures with 13 points. Mohammed Fall had 8 points and 9 rebounds.

Cardinals pick up first win 72-53 against Dragons

Tiffin University (1-7, 0-4 GLIAC) shot 33 percent for the game, as a close first half fell apart in the second half en route to a 72-53 win for Saginaw Valley State over the Dragons. TU trailed 37-31 at halftime but the Cardinals outscored TU 35-22 after the break. Brian Scott led TU with 18 points while Mohammed Fall had 15 points. Ryan Webb and Phillip Brooks had 8 rebounds apiece for TU.

Red hot Eagles outgun Dragons 90-65

Tiffin University (1-6, 0-3 GLIAC) shot 35 percent to Ashland's 68 percent, eventually falling over the final 10 minutes 90-65 in the GLIAC matchup. The Dragons pulled to within 8 points with 10:59 to play in the game, but Ashland outscored the Dragons over the final 10 minutes 31-14. Ashland also held a 21-7 free throw advantage. Alex Strok led TU with 19 points, while Brian Scott had 12 points. Rafael Cuellar had 9 points and 7 rebounds.

Bulldogs dominate Dragons 74-48

Tiffin University (1-5, 0-2 GLIAC) shot 33 percent to Ferris State's 53 percent and the Bulldogs enjoyed a 40-21 halftime advantage en route to a 74-48 victory. The Dragons offense struggled all day, with Brian Scott and Alan Bradford tying for the team lead with 8 points each. Rafael Cuellar had 7 points with 9 rebounds, while Alex Strok also had 7 points. The Bulldogs won the rebounding edge 35-26 and hit 9 of 16 three pointers.

Poor second half sinks Dragons 76-57 vs. Grand Valley State

Tiffin University (1-4, 0-1 GLIAC) played well in the first half but could not keep up the effort for the last 20 minutes, as Grand Valley State beat TU 76-57 in TU's GLIAC opener. TU shot 52 percent in the first half while Grand Valley opened red hot shooting 66 percent as GVSU led at the half 38-33. But the Dragons could not maintain the hot shooting, falling off to 38 percent in the second half. The Lakers finished the game with a 59 percent shooting effort. Donnell Patterson was the lone Dragons player in double figures with 14 points, while Alex Strok and Brian Scott each had 9 points. GVSU outrebounded TU 30-20.

Dragons fall in double overtime to Ohio Valley 74-71

Tiffin University (1-3) could not pull out a double overtime game at Ohio Valley, falling 74-71. TU battled back from a couple 10 point first half deficits in the close contest, but Ohio Valley hit three free throws in the final 20 seconds of the second overtime to sneak away with the win. Nothing seemed to go the Dragons' way in the game, as they shot just 35 percent and had 31 turnovers. Both teams combined for 53 turnovers in the game while OVU also shot just 35 percent. OVU did manage to sink 26 of 48 free throws while TU hit just 3 for 18 from three point land. Rafael Cuellar and Donnell Patterson led TU with 14 points, while Brian Scott and Mohammed Fall had 10 points. Ryan Webb led with 10 rebounds, while Alex Strok, Fall, and Darryle Miller also had 8 rebounds.

Strong second half lifts Dragons over Urbana 85-76

Tiffin University (1-2) shot a red-hot 59 percent in the second half en route to a 85-76 win over visiting Urbana. The score was tied at 44-44, with TU shooting a solid 45 percent but only 12 of 20 from the line, while Urbana used a 21 for 34 free throw advantage in the first half to keep the game close. But TU's second half shooting was too much for the Blue Knights to overcome, despite finishing 31 of 38 from the charity stripe. TU controlled the rebounds 45-33. Alex Strok finished with 21 points, while Rafael Cuellar had 18, Darryle Miller had 12 with 11 rebounds, and Ryan Webb had 11 with 8 rebounds.

Red hot first half gives Kentucky Wesleyan victory over Dragons 93-58

Tiffin University (0-2) fell behind at the half 59-21 en route to a 93-58 loss at Kentucky Wesleyan. TU shot just 34 percent in the game, while KWC lit it up for 64 percent shooting in the first half. Kentucky Wesleyan scored 30 points off of turnovers and outrebounded TU 39-26. Brian Scott led TU with 18 points while Donnell Patterson also scored 12 points.

Free throw line sinks Dragons at Heidelberg 79-68

Tiffin University (0-1) hit just 12 of 22 free throws, while Heidelberg made 37 trips to the line and sank 29 of them, beating TU 79-68. Heidelberg also controlled the rebounding edge 44-29, but the game was close throughout the second half. Heidelberg jumped out to an double digit lead in the first half as the Dragons shot just 35 percent from the floor while Heidelberg shot 52 percent. But the Dragons rallied behind their defense to close the halftime gap to 33-28. The second half remained close, with the Dragons tying the game a number of times in the final 10 minutes. But Heidelberg didn't miss from the line, pulling away in the closing 1:45 behind their solid free throw shooting. Rafael Cuellar led the Dragons with 18 points, while Alex Strok had 13 points, Donnell Patterson had 12 points, and Alan Bradford had 10 points.

Dragons help area families for holidays

Tiffin University's men's basketball team is assisting area families during the Thanksgiving holiday. Working in conjunction with the local Salvation Army, the Dragons are giving away 20 turkeys to needy families in the Seneca County area. The turkeys will be distributed by the players on Nov. 20 between 4:00 and 6:30 pm in the Gillmor Center Cafeteria. The men's basketball team takes pride in its tradition of helping in the community, as they have participated in the Arthritis Walk as well as worked with county elementary schools to assist young people grow in their educational and interpersonal skills.

Dragons' grad excels in Salt Lake City

Tiffin University graduate Kenny Pascley played over the summer for Barcelona in the Euro Basket Summer League in Salt Lake City, averaging 14 points and 5 assists. The 6-1 guard earned All-Tournament team selection while also attracting attention from scouts with his athleticism and quickness.

Dragons land two players on All-ICAA Freshmen squad

Tiffin University (3-24) placed three athletes on the Division II All-Independent team, with Alex Strok earning Second Team honors. Brian Scott and Rafael Cuellar were both named to the All-Freshmen team.
