Head Coach Rodney Martin

Rodney Martin enters his second year with the Tiffin University men's basketball program. Martin has had his share of experience in the basketball realm.  Rodney’s passion and dedication for basketball is a motivator for the players that come in contact with him.  His winning spirit radiates before and during game time, and it was that spirit which gave him the opportunity to step up at Norfolk State in the absence of his Head Coach and prepared him for his current endeavor.  Moments such as that and a wealth of past experience constantly build character in his journey as a coach.

Having had success in the field, Rodney has served as First Assistant Basketball Coach at Division I Norfolk State University and Director of Basketball Operations for Division I Hampton University.  He has also had years of experience as Head Coach developing Freshman athletes in Toledo, Ohio to compete in Division I High School State Championship basketball tournaments.  In addition, while Coach Martin served as Varsity Assistant Boys Basketball Coach for Libbey High School in Toledo Ohio, the team finished in 2000 with a record of 25-1 and was ranked by USA Today as # 25 in the nation in high school basketball.

Prior to his tenure on a high school level, Rodney also contributed to the 29-2 record of the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rangers during the 1993-1994 season as Head Assistant Basketball Coach.  Not only does Coach Martin take pride in the sport during the season, but off season as well.  He has participated as an AAU Coach for Nike All Ohio, Nike All Ohio AAU Evaluator, and Station Master for Five Star, Blue Chip, and Camp Director for Jim Jackson.  Also, he worked for the Ohio State, University of Toledo and Metro Index Basketball Camps.  In addition to the named camps, Coach Martin coordinated his own basketball camp for students in the Toledo community.

All in all, his objective is to assure that student-athletes are committed to achieving excellence in the classroom, on the court and in the community.  “Simplicity is my select style of attaining comprehension.”
