The track and field teams competed at the University of Findlay this past weekend, participating in the Findlay Open on Friday and the All-Ohio Championships on Saturday.
On Friday, the teams had nine top-ten finishers at the Findlay Open, with Kristina Schumacker earning the best spot for the Dragons, finishing second in the long jump with a score of 4.77 meters. Three Dragons placed fourth in their respective events, including Dominique O’Neil in the mile run (4:30.06), Riley Morman in the men’s high jump (1.85m), and Amy Buck in the women’s high jump (1.50m). Jason Shelnick placed sixth in the 600m run with a time of 1:30.22, as did Jennifer Mitsoff in the pole vault with a score of 2.80 meters. Justin Setty placed eighth in the 3000m run with a time of 9:14.63, while Jennifer Deitrick placed ninth in the shot put (11.19m) and Kathy Kernen finished tenth in the weight throw (13.76m).
On Saturday at the All-Ohio Championships, the men’s team placed fourth out of eight teams, finishing behind Ohio State, University of Cincinnati, and Ashland, while the women placed 11th out of 12 teams. The women’s team points came from Andrea Bader, who finished seventh and eighth in the 60m dash (7.77) and 200m dash (26.07), respectively. Jessica Clark placed just outside of contention with a tenth place finish in the 5000m run with a time of 19:10.15.
For the men, Jeremy Lee earned the Dragons only victory on the weekend, winning the mile run with a time of 4:18.97, while Jason Bumb placed sixth in the event with a time of 4:23.57. Ramone Brant finished second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.23 seconds, while Michael Ballistrea placed third in the 400m dash with a time of 50.21 seconds. Thomas Buxton had a time of 1:58 in the 800m run and placed fifth, while Bumb earned a seventh place finish in the event with a time of 1:59.99. In the pole vault competition, Keith Reiter placed third with a throw of 4.78 meters, while Dyshaun Edwards earned two top-five finishes in the men’s long jump (6.27m) and triple jump (13.07m) competitions. Lastly, the team’s two relay teams also earned top-five finishes, with the 4x400m relay team of Ballistrea, Chad Johnson, Bryon Toran, and Marcus Johnson earning fifth place with a time of 3:28.88, while in the Distance Medley Charles Faerber, Ballistrea, Marcus Johnson, and Setty placed fourth with a time of 10:46.75.
