This past weekend, the Tiffin track and field squads competed in two meets, the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, TN and the Redhawk Invitational at Miami University of Ohio.  Although rain delayed much of the meet on Friday, the Dragons still managed many strong performances.

 

At the Sea Ray Relays, Anthony Thomas finished eighth in the 200 with a time of 21.72, while hurdler Ramone Brant ran his 110 hurdle race in 14.66 to place fifteenth.  In the field events, Keith Reiter was tenth in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 4.75m (15-7).  Other strong performances came from Zach Ball in the 100 (10.79), Justin Ware in the 400 (50.77), and Thomas Buxton in the 800 (1:55.19).  The sole female competitor, Andrea Bader, placed 20th in the 100 in 12.05.

 

Meanwhile, at Miami University, the rest of the Dragon squad also put up solid numbers.  The men’s team was led by the throws squad, who had four individuals place in the top five of their event.  Raymond Robinson was third in the discus with a throw of 44.93m (147-5), while teammate Alex Bushong, placing fifth in the event with 43.68m (143-4), was close behind him.  In the shot put, John Pemberton also finished third with a distance of 15.48m (50-9.5), and Nolan Hill tossed the hammer 51.09m (167-7) for third place in that event.  Also in the hammer throw, John Havrilla ranked seventh with his 49.05m (160-11) throw.  In other field events, Travis LeFlore grabbed a third place spot in the high jump with a leap of 1.95m (6-4.75), and Gavin Jones jumped 6.22m (20-5) in the long jump to place sixth.

 

The lone event champion for the Dragons was Ramone Brant.  Brant finished the 110 hurdle race in 14.72.  Andrew Moore also had success in the hurdles, placing fourth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 56.97.  Other notable performances came from Joe Candito in the 100 (11.26), Jacob Buckwalter in the 200 (22.60), and Bryon Toran in the 400 (50.99).

 

For the ladies’ team, Kristen Ameling was the highest placer with her runner-up finish in the shot put.  Ameling threw 13.69m (44-11), a national qualifying performance.  Andrea Bader, following up her Sea Ray performance, also had a big day, placing third in both the 100 and 200 (12.35 and 25.26, respectively).  Other notable women’s finishers include Danielle Peterson in the shot put (13.09m), Rebecca Miller in the 3000m steeplechase (12:14.1), and Maria Shaw in the 400 (1:00.26).

 

Next weekend, the Dragons will travel back to Miami University of Ohio to compete in the All-Ohio Championships.
