The Tiffin University women’s basketball team is proud to announce the addition of five student-athletes to its roster. Ranging from point guard to center, the five will bring a wide variety of skills to the 2009-10 Dragons.

The bulk of the 2009-10 recruiting class comes at the guard position.  The Dragons added three last November during the early signing period with guards Melissa Gilliland, Karli Mast, and Jordan Jenkins.  Tiffin then picked up two more signees in guard Stephanie Kelly and center Jonette McQueen.

Melissa Gilliland comes to the Dragons from Bishop Watterson High School in Columbus, OH, where she was coached by Tom Woodford.  Melissa is a 5 foot 7 combo guard that will look to fill in at the shooting guard position.  In her senior year at Watterson Melissa averaged 11.7 ppg, 2 rpg, 2 apg, 2 spg, was named to the all conference team, and earned all district honors.  Gilliand shot 43% from 3pt. range and scorched the free throw line at 90% mark.

Also looking to step in at the shooting guard is 5 foot 7  Berlin, OH native Karli Mast. Karli comes from a very good program in perennial state power house Hiland High School and coach Dave Schlabach. While at Hiland, Karli was part of 2 state championships and a state runner-up team.  The lone senior on her team last year, Karli contributed with 15 pg, 2.5 rpg, 2 apg, and 2.5 spg.  Karli brings much big game experience, playing in a total of 6 Ohio State Tournament games during her high school career.

Jordan Jenkins comes to Tiffin from Lake High School in Hartville, OH and coach Thom Grubb.  The 5 foot 9 guard/forward is looking to utilize her ability to get to the rim and hit the 3 point shot. Jordan will also be expected to defend both the guard and post position. In her senior season at Lake HS, she averaged 13 ppg, 4 rpg, 2.5 apg, shot 41% from 3pt. range, and 76% from the charity stripe. With 586 career points, Jordan also holds school records for 3pt. FG in a season (67), 3pt. FG in a career(135), and 3pt. percentage in a season(41%).

Stepping into the point guard slot is Michigan native Stephanie Kelly who comes to Tiffin from Flint Powers Catholic HS and coach Betsy Kreston.  In her junior and senior seasons at Flint Powers, the 5 foot 5 Kelly was named to the Big Nine Conference first team twice, and earned BCAM all state honorable mention honors in both years.

Jonette McQueen is the only true post player to join the team this season. Jonette is a transfer from Owens Community College in Toledo, OH.  Originally from Findlay, OH, Jonette played her high school ball at Findlay High School under the direction of coach Connie Lyon. While there, Jonette was named to 2 Greater Buckeye Conference First teams and was an All Northwest Ohio Honorable Mention in 2006. Jonette, who stands at a long 6 foot 3 inches, holds the records for most blocked shots in a game (9), most blocked shots in a season (71), and most blocked shots in a career (190) at FHS.
