Dragons soccer program earns academic honor
Six Dragons women's soccer players were named to the All-Ohio squad, more than any other Division II program. Felicia Ruiz (Def.), Sheri Camloh (MF), Ashley Davis (F), Shelly Rogers (F), Nichole Sorice (All-Around) and Danielle Eaken (All-Around) all earned recognition.

Dragons soccer programs earn academic honor
A total of 575 soccer teams (143 men, 332 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2008-09 academic year. Of that total, 99 schools had both their men's and women's programs recognized. Tiffin's women's team posted a 3.72 mark while the men were at 3.10.
Dragons season ends in GLIAC semifinals with 1-0 defeat
Tiffin University (11-7-2) played hard but came up just short in the GLIAC Semifinals, falling to Saginaw Valley State 1-0. The Dragons were outshot in the game 11-4 and managed just one shot on goal over 90 minutes. The Cardinals got the winning goal in the 70th minute after a scoreless first half. Lindsey Gallagher was in goal for TU, making 3 saves.
Dragons drop regular season finale at Urbana 2-0
Tiffin University (11-6-2) dropped their regular season finale at Urbana 2-0 in a game that saw the Dragons resting numerous starters in preparation of their GLIAC Semifinal game against Saginaw Valley State on Friday. The Dragons gave up one goal in the first half to trail 1-0 before the Blue Knights tallied a second goal in the final 45 minutes. Emily Demorest started in goal while Lindsey Gallagher played the final 45 minutes. TU outshot Urbana 22-12 while also controlling corner kicks 11-4, but could not manage to put a goal in the net.
Dragons win GLIAC Quarterfinal match against Northwood 3-1
Tiffin University’s soccer team defeated Northwood 3-1 in the Quarterfinals of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament. The host Dragons took an early 1-0 lead in the 12th minute when Ashley Davis scored off a Kirsten White pass. The Dragons added to the lead in the 55th minute when Danielle Eaken scored off a penalty kick. A little over a minute later, Northwood cut the lead to 2-1 when they scored a goal off a shot over goalkeeper Lindsey Gallagher’s hand. However, Davis would take a pass from Danielle Eaken and turn it to a goal in the 62nd minute to seal the win for the Dragons.
Gallagher played 90 minutes in goal and made three saves to go along with the one goal allowed. The Dragons outshot Northwood 13-5 and also had more corner kicks (6-1).
The Dragons will travel to Urbana tomorrow to wrap up the regular season before heading to Grand Valley State University on Friday to continue the GLIAC tournament against Saginaw Valley State.
Dragons dominate play at Lake Erie 5-0
TU (10-5-2) won for the seventh time in eight games, dominating play against Lake Erie in a 5-0 victory. The Dragons outshot the Storm 31-1, scoring four second half goals along the way. Steph Bowman got the Dragons on the board in the 21st minute on a header off a pass from Ashley Davis. Davis got her second assist when Felicia Ruiz scored in the 51st minute. Lauren Merriman drilled home a shot from 12 yards off a pass from Danielle Eaken in the 65th minute, while Jenna Hornyak also scored in the 76th minute on a pass from Hannah Stevens. Stevens also got another assist as the Dragons finished scoring in the 87th minute on another goal from 10 yards from Merriman. Lindsey Gallagher got the shutout in goal, making one save.
Dragons get overtime victory against Oilers
TU (9-5-2) picked up a clutch 2-1 victory in overtime against Findlay on Senior Day. After Findlay opened scoring in the 9th minute, the Dragons answered in the 31st minute when Alexandra Sevastakis took a pass from Shelly Rogers and chipped in a goal. After a scoreless second half, Ashley Davis headed a through ball home from 15 yards off a pass from Kirsten White for the game winner. Lindsey Gallagher got the win in goal, making 6 saves in 100 minutes.
Dragons win 2-1 on road at Davis & Elkins
TU (8-5-2) got a goal and assist from Ashley Davis, as they picked up a 2-1 road win at Davis & Elkins. Danielle Eaken also scored a goal off a pass from Lauren Turkington. Emily Demorest played in goal 90 minutes for the win.
Dragons post 1-0 shutout at Northern Michigan
Stephanie Bowman had the gamewinning goal, striking a shot in the 35th minute on a pass from Shelly Rogers to give TU a 1-0 win at Northern Michigan. Lindsey Gallagher got the shutout victory in goal, making 5 saves over 90 minutes. TU outshot the Wildcats 13-7 while also holding a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
Eaken's goal gives TU narrow win over Ashland
Danielle Eaken scored the game winning goal in the 88th minute to make the Dragons a 2-1 victor against Ashland University. Eaken took a pass from Ashley Davis and scored the goal. The Dragons fell behind early as 59 seconds into the game Ashland scored on a short kick over Dragons goalkeeper Lindsey Gallagher. The Dragons trailed until Kirsten White scored off a header from a Shelly Rogers corner kick at the 63:55 mark.
Gallagher made one save in her 90 minutes of work in goal. The Dragons outshot Ashland 11-5 and also held the edge on corner kicks 10-2. The Dragons improved their record to 6-5-2.
Dragons fall to nationally-ranked Lakers 2-1
Tiffin University was one-for-one on their goal attempts, but it wasn’t enough as the visiting Grand Valley State University Lakers left with a 2-1 victory. The Dragons' only shot and goal came in the 85th minute when Kelly Dobbs scored off a Danielle Eaken pass. The Lakers had 18 shot attempts to go along with their two goals. The Lakers also held the advantage on corner kicks 4-0. Lindsey Gallagher played 90 minutes in goal for the Dragons and made six saves. The Dragons fell to 5-5-2 while the Lakers improved to 14-0-2.
Four second half goals lead TU to win over Bulldogs
Tiffin University used a big day from Ashley Davis to defeat the visiting Ferris State Bulldogs 5-1. Davis scored two goals along with delivering two assists to lead the Dragons. TU fell behind 1-0, but would score the next five goals to seal the victory. The first score came at 18:28 when Davis found teammate Felicia Ruiz to tie the game at one. Alexandra Sevastakis would be next to benefit from a Davis pass as she scored a goal that would put the Dragons up for good in the 50th minute. Davis then scored her two goals to give the Dragons some insurance. The first goal came off a Lauren Turkington pass that Davis got around the keeper at 60:37, and then again when Hannah Stevens hooked her up at 80:21. Lesley Dotson scored the final goal of the game in the 84th minute on a header that came from Turkington’s corner kick.
Lindsey Gallagher played 90 minutes in goal for the Dragons and recorded four saves to go along with the one goal she allowed. The Dragons outshot Ferris State by a 22-10 margin. Fifteen of the Dragons’ shots came in the second half. The win improves the Dragons to 5-4-2. They will look to win their third straight contest when Grand Valley State comes to TU Sunday.
Dragons win overtime thriller at Northwood 2-1
The Dragons (4-4-2) pulled out a win in overtime, beating Northwood 2-1 in the 97th minute off a goal by Felicia Ruiz off a shot from 13 yards out on the right side off a cross from Ashley Davis. TU opened the scoring in the 66th minute on a header from Kirsten White off a Danielle Eaken free kick. Northwood equalized in the 72nd minute to send the game to overtime. Lindsey Gallagher got the win in goal, making 4 saves in 97 minutes.
Dragons fall at Saginaw Valley 3-1
The Dragons gave up two first half goals and could not make up the difference, falling at Saginaw Valley State in a key GLIAC matchup 3-1. Down 2-0 at halftime, TU's Kirsten White scored in the 62nd minute off a pass from Felicia Ruiz to cut the deficit to one goal. But TU would get no closer, as the Cardinals put the game away with an insurance goal in the 87th minute. Emily Demorest played in goal, making 7 saves while allowing all three goals in 90 minutes. TU was outshot 14-12.
Davis nets 2 goals as TU beats Wildcats 3-1
Ashley Davis scored two goals and Shelly Rogers added one to lead the Tiffin University soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Northern Michigan. Davis scored the first goal of the game off a Danielle Eaken pass in the 19th minute. The Dragons would take a 2-0 lead in the 47th minute when Davis assisted Rogers. NMU’s only goal came in the 61st minute, but the Dragons would answer it less than a minute later when Davis scored on a header in the box that was assisted by Eaken and Jenna Hornyak. Lindsay Gallagher played 90 minutes in goal, making 6 saves for the Dragons. TU was outshot 15-13, but held an advantage on corner kicks 6-4. The win improves the Dragons to 3-3-2 and 3-2-2 in the GLIAC.
Dragons post solid 4-0 win at Ashland
Tiffin University (2-3-2) got a strong all-around game in a 4-0 win at Ashland, with Ashley Davis posting a goal and 2 assists in the matchup. TU opened scoring in the 37th minute when Satu Hermunen scored on a pass from Davis. Sheri Camloh made it 2-0 at the half when Danielle Eaken passed her the ball in the 43rd minute. Davis then assisted Shelly Rogers in the 49th minute to make it 3-0, and Davis finished the scoring when she took a pass from Nichole Sorice in the 51st minute. Lindsey Gallagher got the shutout in goal, making 3 saves over 90 minutes. TU outshot Ashland 20-7.
TU announces Dragon Radio featuring three live events
Tiffin University is proud to announce the debut of Dragon Radio Live, a monthly radio program that will broadcast live from Madison Street Pub and Grub on Oct. 5 from 6-7 p.m. The show is part of a continuing partnership between Tiffin University and WMJK 100.9 FM and provides insight into Dragons Athletics as well as highlights the continuing development of the program and institution through the construction of the new Recreation Center and other initiatives. Alumni and Friends of the University are invited to join in the fun of a "live" show. Doors open at 5 p.m.
WMJK is the home of Dragons football, broadcasting all 11 games while also providing an internet stream for fans to listen to abroad. Dragons Radio will be a monthly feature highlighting all Dragons Athletic teams along with their sponsors and supporters, with a total of three broadcasts being live events from local establishments. Future live broadcasts are scheduled for Nov. 16 at T.J. Willies and March 15 at Madison Street Pub and Grub. Voice of the Dragons Frank Barber, entering his 15th year working with Tiffin University, is the host of the show, while a wide variety of coaches, administrators, and players will receive exposure and provide interesting insight into Tiffin University.
Dragons suffer tough outing at Grand Valley State
Tiffin University (1-3-2) struggled through a tough game at Grand Valley State, ranked 9th in Division II. The Dragons were outshot 30-4 en route to a 7-0 loss. Emily Demorest took the loss in goal, making 10 saves while allowing 7 goals over 90 minutes. Tiffin managed just one shot on goal during the game.
Dragons get first win on road at Ferris State
Tiffin University (1-2-2) picked up their first win of 2009, beating Ferris State 6-1. TU scored three goals in a five minute span in the first half, with Emily Goldsberry tallying two of the goals. Alexandra Sevastakis also scored two goals in the game, while Satu Hermunen and Jenna Hornyak also picked up goals. Lauren Turkington, Shelly Rogers, and Danielle Eaken all had two assists apiece. Lindsay Gallagher got the win in goal, making 7 saves over 90 minutes while allowing a goal. TU outshot Ferris State 17-10.
Dragons post another double overtime tie in GLIAC play
Tiffin University played to a tie for the second time in two games as Northwood and the Dragons each had two goals after the second overtime period. All the scoring for both teams came in the first half. The Dragons fell behind 2-0 after two quick Northwood goals, but would get on the board when Danielle Eaken scored off an Alexandra Sevastakis assist in the 16th minute. The Dragons (0-2-2) would then tie the game in the 25th minute when Felicia Ruiz passed to Ashley Davis for a goal.
Emily Demorest and Lindsey Gallagher spilt time in goal for the Dragons. Demorest played 45 minutes, allowing 2 goals while making 4 saves. Gallagher played 65 minutes, making 3 saves while allowing no goals. TU outshot Northwood 16-14, and had the only shot attempts in either overtime period (5). Northwood held the advantage on corner kicks 7-4.
Dragons battle to scoreless tie in double OT vs. Cardinals
Tiffin University’s women’s soccer team didn’t score in GLIAC action Friday, but neither did visiting Saginaw Valley State University as the game ended in a 0-0 tie after two overtimes. Emily Demorest played 110 minutes in goal and made 6 saves for the Dragons. Saginaw Valley outshot the Dragons 10-8 and also had more corner kicks 10-5. The Dragons, however, did not allow the Cardinals to get a shot off in either overtime period. Shelly Rogers attempted 6 of the Dragons' (0-2-1) shots while Sheri Camloh and Satu Hermunen each had one shot attempt each. TU will host Northwood on Sunday.
Dragons fall 3-1 in GLIAC opener at Findlay
Tiffin University (0-2) dropped a disappointing decision at Findlay, falling 3-1 in their GLIAC opener. Findlay opened scoring in the 12th minute before TU equalized in the 16th minute on a goal by Ashley Davis on a pass from Shelly Rogers. The Oilers took a 2-1 advantage at halftime with another goal in the 34th minute. They then tacked on an insurance goal in the 55th minute to put the game away. Lindsey Gallagher played in goal for the Dragons, allowing 3 goals over 90 minutes while also making 4 saves. TU outshot the Oilers 17-13.
Dragons fall 2-0 in opener vs. Greyhounds
Tiffin University (0-1) dropped their season opener 2-0 against Indianapolis. The home Dragons played a scoreless first half with a quality Indianapolis team, but could not answer the two goals the Greyhounds scored in the second half. While the Dragons fell to 0-1, Indianapolis improved to 3-0.
The Dragons had 12 shots while limiting the Greyhounds to 11. Both Teams had 6 shots on goal and Indianapolis had 4 corner kicks to the Dragons 3. However, Indianapolis took a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute when Ashley Seehase scored a goal on an assist from Chaunell Abrams on the left side. The Greyhounds then added a huge insurance goal in the 83rd minute when Shelby Spinelli scored unassisted on a shot that was arched over the keeper from the box.
Dragons goalkeeper Lindsey Gallagher played 90 minutes and had four saves while giving up two goals. Her counterpart, Shae Morris, also played 90 minutes and had six saves in the shutout.
The Dragons will be back in action September 13th at Findlay.

Dragons wrap up spring season
Tiffin University Women’s soccer ended up a perfect weekend by going 4-0. In the process the Dragons defeated their own alumni, Erin Mills Soccer Club from Canada, local rivals Heidelberg and Bluffton University. The Lady Dragons ended up the spring with an overall record of 5-2-1. Next up will be pre-season starting August 10th .
Dragons compete at Cleveland State
Tiffin lost 3-2 at Cleveland State. After 60 minutes of action the game was tied 0-0, but at the 65th minute,
Deidre Abouahmed (Toledo, OH) received a great through ball from Shelly Rogers (Utica, MI), and one timed in to the back of the net from 12 yards out for a 1-0 lead. 10 minutes later Shelly Rogers got a goal of
her own from a brilliant cross from Felicia Ruiz (Medina, OH) and headed into the back of the net. But the Dragons couldn't hold the lead as the Vikings scored 3 goals in the last 10 minutes of the match to come away with a 3-2 win. The Dragons will be up in action again on April 18th at Paradiso soccer
field against their alumni and Erin Mills Soccer Club.
Dragons go 1-1-1 at Duquesne spring tourney
Tiffin University opened its spring soccer season, going 1-1-1 at the Duquesne tourney. TU beat California, tied St. Francis, and lost to Duquesne. Goals were scored by Lauren Turkington and Jenna Hornyak, with Shelly Rogers getting two assists. Emily Demorest and Heather Denaro played in goal. "I was impressed by how well we did considering the number of players we lost to graduation after last season," Head Coach Rudy Brownell said. "We played very well."
Galaska nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year
Tiffin University soccer standout Vickie Galaska has been nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year, an honor that awards senior student-athletes for their collegiate achievements in service, leadership, athletics and academics. The Top 10 honorees from Divisions I, II, and III will be honored and the 2009 NCAA Woman of the Year announced at a dinner in Indianapolis on Oct. 18.

Tiffin University Head Coach Rudy Brownell has named his 2009 women's soccer team captains. Felicia Ruiz and Kirsten White will serve as captains in the fall as the Dragons look to return to the NCAA National Tournament and compete for the title in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Three Dragons land Academic All-Ohio nods
Tiffin University's Felicia Ruiz, Steffany Stoeffler, and Kirsten White were named First Team OCSA Academic All-Ohio selections. The honor is accorded to Ohio soccer athletes covering Division I, II, and the NAIA. Tiffin was the lone Division II institution to have players honored amongst the three selected teams.

Dragons engage in community service
Tiffin University's women's soccer team continued its history of working with the Seneca County community last fall when they helped out at the Seneca County Humane Society. The team assisted the Humane Society with a variety of tasks, including dog walking, cleaning cages, and feeding the animals. Over 30 athletes participated in the service. The team plans on continuing the community involvement in the future.

Dragons lose in penalty kicks after double overtime thriller with Quincy
Tiffin University (13-5-2) saw its memorable season come to an end in dramatic fashion, as TU and Quincy battled to a 1-1 tie after two overtimes in the first round of the NCAA National Tournament at Grand Valley State University. Quincy won the penalty kick shootout 4-3. With the penalty kicks tied at 3-3, Tiffin's fifth shot was stopped by Quincy's goalkeeper. Quincy made its fifth shot to end the Dragons season. The Dragons had led 1-0 at the half, as Deidre Abouahmed scored in the 44th minute on an 18 yard shot into the upper left corner of the net. But Quincy answered in the 57th minute when Becky Fleming scored. Quincy controlled the tempo throughout most of the game's 110 minutes, outshooting the Dragons 22-7. Abby Grieser made 8 saves in 110 minutes in goal for the Dragons.
White earns All-Region honors
Tiffin University's Kirsten White was a Daktronics Second Team All-Midwest Region pick by vote of the College Sports Information Directors of America. White, a junior defender, helped lead the Dragons to a 13-5-1 mark and a first-ever NCAA National Tournament selection in 2008. The team finished the year ranked 4th in the Midwest Region.
Dragons earn admission to NCAA National Tournament
Tiffin University's women's soccer team (13-5-1) became the first Tiffin University team to earn admission to the NCAA National Tournament with the announcement of the qualifying teams in the Midwest Region being played at Grand Valley State University starting Friday. The Dragons will face Quincy University (11-6-1) at 1 pm at Grand Valley State, with the Lakers awaiting the outcome for the second round game on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 1 pm. The Dragons have never faced Quincy in their 17 year history. Quincy will enter as the 4th seed while TU will be seeded 5th. Grand Valley State (21-0) is ranked 1st.
