Brian Campbell has resigned as Head Softball Coach at Tiffin University to become Head Softball Coach at Youngstown State University. "For the past 17 years, as a player and coach, I have called Tiffin my home," Campbell, a 1994 TU grad, said. "My family and I faced a difficult decision but we felt the opportunity to venture to a Division I institution like Youngstown State was too good to pass up. The student-athletes I have coached in the past and present have not only made me the coach I am today, but also a better person, and for that, I am forever grateful."
"I would like to thank Brian for his years of service to TU," TU Athletic Director Lonny Allen said. "He helped make the Dragons a nationally-recognized program year in and year out while building teams that set records and won championships at an unprecedented level for the softball program. He also made strong academics a priority, and set a high standard on and off the field for future softball coaches to meet."
Campbell has been the Head Coach of the Dragons for eight seasons and served as assistant coach for four years prior. He is the winningest softball coach in Tiffin's history, posting a 285-129-1 overall record (.688).
Last season, the Dragons finished with a 27-14-1 record, with Campbell earning ICAA Coach of the Year honors. Coach Campbell was also named AMC North Coach of the year in 2007 for the third consecutive season as well as 2004 Division I-II Independent Coach of the Year. The Dragons won the Region IX Championship in 2007 and 2006, advancing to the NAIA National Tournament in Decatur, Alabama both seasons. Previously, the Dragons had been in the Region IX tourney for the eight consecutive years and had been Region IX Runners-up four times in that span. They won the AMC North Championship in 2007, 2006, 2005, and 2004 and the AMC Championship in 2002. Under his direction, the team has averaged 37 wins per season. They have been among national leaders in batting and ranked nationally in hits, runs, and other offensive categories.
Tiffin University was ranked as high as 32nd in the NFCA National polls in 2008 while previously earning a ranking of 13th in the NAIA National Rankings in 2007. Over Campbell's eight-year span, the Dragons posted a 104-16 conference record.
