Ardner selects Tiffin University for college career

Tiffin Columbian's Nicole Ardner has selected Tiffin University to further her athletic and academic careers.

Ardner, the daughter of Don and Rose Ardner of Tiffin, had a standout career for Columbian. She was a Second Team All District pick as a senior while also qualifying for Districts as a junior and senior. She was also Northern Ohio League champion at first singles as a junior and senior while earning Second Team NOL honors at second singles as a freshman. Overall Ardner posted a 54-4 record at first singles over her last two years, including 30-1 as a senior.

"Nicole is arguably the best player in the history of Columbian High School," said Columbian Coach Chip Weingart. "She left a tremendous legacy, was a joy to coach, and will have a great college career."

"I think by having a successful career in high school tennis it will help me when I make the step up to play college tennis," said Ardner. "It will help because I made it to the district level which I have been told is what most college players perform at. Playing high school tennis has not only made me more experienced in playing matches but also has made me more confident in my abilities. I know a lot more now about what I need to do to prepare for the competition that I'm going to have and I know that I have to stay physically fit and mentally tough for what is to come."

"I am very excited to have Nicole continue her career at TU," said Dragons Coach Phil Conley. "She is not just a great player but also a great student."

Ardner credited many people for her success so far.

"I have been playing tennis for 12 1/2 years. Over this time period I have had four coaches that I can thank specifically for bringing my game to where it is today. My first coach that I had was Dave Kimmet from Tiffin.  At the moment I am taking lessons with Bob Kruger, USPTA from Laurel Hill in Toledo, I have been taking lessons with him for four years.  Also for the past year I have been taking lessons  from Todd Dominiak, Head Pro at Perrysburg Tennis Center. I can also thank my high school Coach Chip Weingart from Tiffin Columbian," Ardner noted. "It is amazing to have such a great support system from my parents. Without my parents giving me so many opportunities I don't think I would have went very far with my tennis career. They believe in me and support me in so many ways. They try to never miss a match or a tournament and they are always encouraging me the entire way."
