Wrestling spotlight shines on Green/Gold Wrestle-Off in TU debut
Tiffin University’s new wrestling program held their first event as the
team competed in an intersquad event in front of fans and family. The
event which had the wrestlers broken into two teams, green and gold,
saw gold team dominate the green team 29-3.
In the first match
of the day Jordan Duckett defeated Kyle Begg in the 133 pound weight
class. Lance Zappitella pined Brad Mackey in the 133/141 weight class.
Ben Kuzma bested Cody Alexander 12-12 in the 141/149 weight class. In
the 149/157 weight class, Devin Holland pinned Jimmy Harper. Also in
the 149/157 weight class, Tim Long defeated Vince Gualtieri 10-3.
Johnny Merryman beat Beau Bowden 7-3 in the 165/174 weight class. Alex
Steinke bested Joe Miller 11-4 in the 184 weight class. Nathan
Strickland defeated Ben Janas 4-3 in the 197/285 weight class.
The wrestling team is a club sport for the 2009-2010 season, but will compete in NCAA division 2 in the 2010-2011 season. The Dragons have 12 club matches scheduled for this year. The team travels to New York to compete in the Buffalo open next Sunday.
