Jason Kline: Where will Tiffin University take you?

As a Park Officer with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Jason Kline was already living his dream of having a career that would allow him to work outside. However, he was eager to take his position to the next level. So Jason enrolled in Tiffin University’s Criminal Justice program.

“I’ve always enjoyed being outside—hunting and fishing—it’s just what I’m interested in,” says Jason. “My work as a park officer at Lake Erie and East Harbor lets me do the same type of work a city police officer would do, but in an outdoor setting. I chose to continue my education at TU because I could be on a fast track to complete my degree. I really wanted to earn my bachelor’s degree so that I could teach law enforcement or obtain a supervisory position.”

Jason earned his degree this past May, and he continues to find success in his law enforcement career. Already he has drafted a policy that was approved by ODNR as a training guide providing peer counseling for park officers.  “Sometimes as officers we need counseling if we experience situations like shootings or drowning accidents,” Jason says. “Officers are often reluctant to attend counseling, especially if it’s with someone we don’t know. The policy I wrote outlines a peer-to-peer counseling program that I think could be much more effective.”
