How do I apply to Tiffin University?
To request an application for admission or if you have questions about the application process, please contact Andrea Faber in the TU Admissions Office at (419) 448-3375. An application for admission can also be completed online. It is important to request that you request your official high school transcripts be sent to Tiffin University.
When can I apply to Tiffin University?
Tiffin University operates with an open enrollment policy. Applications for fall or spring admission are accepted from September until the first day of class for the semester.
When can I visit Tiffin University?
Open Houses are held in the fall, winter, and spring giving you the opportunity to explore the possibilities and opportunities of Tiffin University, as well as talk with professors, financial aid counselors, and other students. Individual visitations can be arranged through the Admissions Office by calling (419) 448-3423, or by clicking on Schedule A Visit. Visitations can be scheduled Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to noon throughout the year.
Where is Tiffin University located?
Tiffin University is located in Tiffin, Ohio, which is a city of approximately 18,000 people in North Central Ohio. Tiffin is proximate to several of Ohio's major cities, located 50 miles south of Toledo, 90 miles southwest of Cleveland, and 90 miles north of Columbus.
What degrees are offered at Tiffin University?
Associate’s Degrees - Tiffin University grants the Associate of Business Administration degree, the Associate of Arts degree, and the Associate of Criminal Justice degree.
Bachelor’s Degrees – TU offers the Bachelor of Arts degree, the Bachelor or Business Administration degree, and the Bachelor or Criminal Justice degree.
Master’s Degrees – TU currently offers the Master of Business Administration degree, the Master of Science in Criminal Justice degree, and the Master of Humanities degree.
Who are my professors?
A staff of 50 full-time faculty and 100 adjunct professors teaches Tiffin University classes. You’ll never be in a class taught by a teaching assistant or graduate student. Professors with real-world experience teach our classes! All professors at Tiffin University possess a minimum of a Master’s degree and bring a great deal of experience and insight to the classroom.
What is the cost, and how can I afford a private college?
Tiffin University believes in real value for your education. Tuition for the 2007-2008 school year is $16,800. Room and board costs average $7,080 depending on room selection and meal plan. The cost of books varies but averages $400 per semester.
Most Tiffin University students (full time and part time) receive some form of financial aid in the form of loans, grants or scholarships.
· Associate Degree – Learning Assistance Program (LAP) through academic probation applicants receive a $750 dollar Student Success Grant.
· Annual and monthly payment plans make college tuition affordable.
Are students required to live on campus?
All first- and second-year students are required to live on campus unless permanent residence is within a 45-mile commuting distance. Those students who are in the Associate Degree program for academic probation and live in Tiffin University housing will be assigned to Friedley Hall if space is available. Friedley Hall also houses the Learning Center. The Learning Center is a free tutoring service on campus for all students.
What regulations are placed on campus residents?
The campus observes a 24-hour visitation policy with no curfew. In the residential facilities, quiet hours are observed 10:30 p.m. to 10:30 a.m. throughout the semester with extended quiet hours during finals. Students having visitors on campus overnight are required to sign them in with the resident assistant.
Can I have a car on campus?
All Tiffin University students are permitted to have a vehicle on campus. Parking passes are issued for a minimal fee through the Office of Student Life. There is parking adjacent to all residential facilities.
Where will I eat?
All campus residents are required to have a meal plan in the campus dining hall. Meals are served three times a day Monday-Friday with brunch and dinner being served on Saturday and Sunday. Dining service is buffet style with numerous choices and accommodations for any dietary needs. Residents have a choice of two meal plans (14, or 19 meals per week). Meal plans are also available for commuter students.
Where can I study?
There is a study lounge in each of the residential facilities. Study areas are also available in the library. The Learning Center is an on-campus facility that offers free tutoring and study-aid services, as well as a study area option. Study tables are also a stipulation placed on many student athletes that provide for a designated time and place for studying with tutoring services available.
What kind of academic assistance is available?
Tiffin University students find our faculty accessible and willing to help. All full-time faculty carry at least 10 office hours per week and are available by individual appointment. Students are encouraged to discuss questions or concerns with the professor.
Students that are admitted through the Associate Degree program and are under LAP will have a success coach that will meet with you each week to encourage your real success and to ensure that you complete your academic assignments on time and to take advantage of the Learning Center and other student services.
Upper-level students that have been recommended by professors in specific subject areas staff the Learning Center, located in Friedley Hall. Tutoring and review sessions are available by appointment or walk-in 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:00 a.m. - Noon on Friday.
What is FRE150 LEAP?
Students admitted under the Learning Assistance Program (LAP) are admitted on probation and may not participate in intercollegiate athletics in official games. As a LAP student, we want you to succeed in your academic career at TU. You will be required to attend the Learning Enrichment for Academic Progress (LEAP) program. The LEAP is a program offered during Fall Semester in a three-credit-hour seminar (FRE 150). LEAP is a program filled with a variety of activities and programs that go along with the classroom work.
LEAP is a requirement for graduation, and provides academically at-risk students with an enhanced freshman seminar. The course is divided into three distinct sections.
1) freshman seminar – including study skills and college transitions, and academic advising;
2) basic writing and critical thinking skills, as well as tutoring (in order to provide the student with an upper hand in the classroom), and;
3) leadership skills.
How will I be able to transfer to the Baccalaureate Degree program?
Any student on academic probation may transfer into a Bachelor’s Degree program at TU if you pass at least 12 semester hours that count toward Tiffin University graduation requirements, with a cumulative GPA at TU of 2.00 or higher in the first semester.
How big are classes?
The average class size at Tiffin University is 25. Your largest class will be no more than 40 students. In upper-level classes, it is not unusual for classes to be 12 or 15 students. This small class size allows for more personalized attention and the development of a repertoire between the students and the professor. At TU, we believe in real connections between students and your faculty, as well as your fellow students!
What sports are offered?
Tiffin University is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA, Division II).
Tiffin University participates in intercollegiate athletics for men in baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, and track and field.
Women's intercollegiate athletics are available in the sports of basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.
The university also offers club and recreational sports such as bowling, marital arts, outdoor adventure, equestrian and cheerleading.
Please note that as an Associate Degree LAP student, you may not participate in intercollegiate athletics, cheerleading, ensemble musical groups, or hold elective office throughout the probationary period. We want to ensure your real academic success first.
What kinds of activities are there?
Tiffin University is all about an education for real life, and this includes both in and out of the classroom. As a graduate of Tiffin University, you will need to have more than an excellent academic program in order to be successful. Involvement in college student organizations will help you gain human relation skills and practical experiences that will give you the advantage of a successful future.
Some of the organizations and activities that are available to TU students are Student Government, World Student Association, Greek Letter Organizations, GLASS, Chamber of Fools, Campus Crusade for Christ, Delta Sigma Kappa Honorary Society, University Bands, Vocal Music Groups, Accounting Club, Hospitality Management Club, and Delta Mu Delta Academic Fraternity.
What kind of job placement and career development services are offered?
The Career Development Office provides a variety of services for students as you prepare for your careers. These services include leads to internships; part-time, summer, and full-time employment opportunities; one-on-one career counseling; workshops and sessions on jobs and job search; assistance with resume writing; and assistance in preparation for interviews. You also have the real resources of a career library containing contacts, job leads, and other real-world information
