Jazz and Vocal Festivals

The Ohio Vocal Summit --- The Ohio Jazz Summit

Tiffin University is proud to present its twelfth annual jazz and vocal festivals.  These events bring together high school, college, professional and amateur singers and instrumentalists in a week of activities that celebrate jazz, rock, blues, soul, and other popular musical styles.  The educational festival is held at Tiffin's historic Ritz Theatre, and on the Tiffin University campus. The festival features performances by high school and college jazz bands/combos, vocal jazz ensembles, show choirs, and vocal chamber ensembles, on two consecutive Fridays in April, with each day culminating with a concert by our outstanding guest artists.

The Ohio Vocal Summit

Friday, April 17, 2009

This year's festival welcomes the exciting new gospel/soul/r&b recording artist VLADA.  Vlada is a veteran European concert promoter and producer and recently launched his US performing career.  His debut CD is produced by Mark Kibble of Take 6, and features an all-star band including the legendary Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, Abraham Laboriel on bass, and Paul Jackson Jr. guitar, as well as an amazing roster of guest artists, including Take 6 and Kirk Whalum.  Vlada will be presenting workshops on vocal health and on music business for festival participants, and will be joined by rising star DeAnna Dawn Denning, who at 23 years old is already one of Nashville's leading pop, jazz, country and rock studio singers.

The lead adjudicator and clinician for daytime educational activities will be Connaitre Miller, professor of vocal jazz at Howard University in Washington DC, and one of the most sought-after and critically-acclaimed vocal jazz educators in the world.  Her Howard University vocal jazz ensemble, Afro Blue, will also appear on the evening concert.

The Ohio Jazz Summit

Friday, April 24, 2009

Winslow combines an old school passion with new school sensibility. Bursting through generation and stylistic barriers and worn out trends, Winslow’s music is timeless. Their musical journey has already led them from their Northeast Ohio roots to sharing the stage with such high profile acts as OAR, Lupe Fiasco,Ozomatli,OK GO, GZA of Wu-Tang Clan, MTV’s DJ Scribble and most recently to winning the Molson Battle of the Bands title.  Studied musicianship combined with passion propels this live experience. It is energy. It is driven. It is an outpour of raw emotion that keeps crowds coming back for more.
