Student Success Center
The Student Success Center Provides Resources & Interaction, Leading To Your Academic Success
Resources Plus Interaction Equals Academic Success
The Student Success Center helps students become more effective and efficient learners. It provides access to in-person and online academic support. Students may visit the Center, located in Friedley Hall, for individual or group tutoring. All tutors are trained to assist students with basic study skills problems. Tutors have also demonstrated superior ability in certain subjects that enable them to provide help related to specific courses. The Center also schedules workshops related to various academic issues such as using various academic documentation formats and avoiding plagiarism.
We Are Accessible Throughout The Week
The Student Success Center maintains accessible hours, with activities scheduled at various times. It is open Monday-Thursday from 9:00 A.M to 9:00 P.M., Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. and Sunday from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. Drop-in tutoring is available from 10:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. Monday through Thursday. It is available from 10:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. Friday and from 5:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. on Sunday for most writing projects and math courses. Tutors can help clarify concepts and techniques that will enhance your work in these areas.
Writing help is available on an appointment-only basis. It is possible to drop in at the Center and secure an immediate appointment, but students should not count on this. It is best to schedule an appointment well in advance of the due date of an assignment. No writing assignments will be reviewed within 4 hours of the time they are due. The first appoinment is scheduled for 1 hour. The tutor will review the student's assignment and the concerns the student has about it. Together the student and tutor will develop some strategies to accomplish the project successfully.
Open Study
You don't have to use a tutor to work in the Center. It may be just the environment you need to work on some homework or a major project. There are computers and a printer available, and the Center has wireless capability so you can bring your own lap top if you prefer. Inn Spring 2011 the SSC is also sponsoring a Quiet Study Room on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00-9:00 pm. There are NO PHONES, NO iPODS, and NO COMPUTERS. Students wanted a place with no distractions. You can use this in Franks 120.
