After considering a number of private colleges, Matt Schwartz chose
Tiffin University because it offered a strong business program as
well as the opportunity to get involved in both the athletics and
performing arts programs.
"Tiffin gives students the chance to really stand out," says Matt,
who is from Pequot, Ohio. "I sing in the choir so, like many Tiffin
students, I received a choir scholarship. That made a difference
for me, because it told me that Tiffin valued me and wanted me to
be a member of the student body."
Matt also was on the track team his freshman and sophomore years.
His junior year he became a head resident in the residence halls
and went on to become a peer leader on campus, and he joined Phi
Theta Pi fraternity, an international group of men concerned with
international business and commerce.
As if that wasn't enough, Matt also became president of the Tiffin
University student government. "One of my focuses has been to work
to help more student organizations get up and running and to help
them receive funding. It's been fun to be part of the process and
to see it make a difference."
When he graduates, Matt says his experience at Tiffin will serve
him well as he pursues his interests in commodities, specifically
his dream of working for a large financial firm. While at Tiffin,
Matt held an internship at Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, a
not-for-profit Fortune 500 financial services organization. As part
of his internship, Matt was licensed in life and health insurance.
In addition to working at the office, Matt also conducted in-home
client visits where he helped offer financial advice. "It was an
amazing experience, and it gave me insight into what I would be
doing in the future."
Back on campus, Matt has earned a number of accolades, including
the Track Coach's Award, being named an Emerging Leader, and making
the Dean's List. In his spare time, Matt says he and his friends
enjoy supporting the Dragon athletics teams and taking time to
attend events at the Ritz Theatre in downtown Tiffin.
"Tiffin offers a small campus where you can make great friendships
and really get involved. I wouldn't trade it for anything."
