Tiffin University’s students are an extremely diverse population, from adult learners to traditional college students. The real connections students make both in the classroom with their professors and other students, and out of the classroom – in extracurricular activities, add up to an education for real life. Here is just one of many Tiffin University “Success Stories.”
Meet Joelle Hall:
“Coming to Tiffin University from a city like Columbus, Ohio has definitely been a learning experience for me,” Joelle remarks. “When I started cheerleading camp over the summer of my freshman year, I realized that being at TU would be an unforgettable four-year journey. I met so many people who were willing to go the extra mile to help me with everything, and I encountered the kind of friends you know you’re going to have for the rest of your life.”
Joelle recalls that when she enrolled as a freshman, she was very sheltered. “I was set in my ways and I had not really experienced much in my then 18 years of living,” she says. “I depended on my father for everything and was completely petrified of the mere concept of being on my own.”
But in just two years, Joelle’s entire life outlook has changed. “I am a junior at Tiffin University. How much I have grown from my freshman year is indescribable. I have experienced more in my three years here than I have in my 18 years living in Columbus. A very few friends have come and gone, but pledging my sorority, Gamma Chi Alpha, has given me lifelong sisters and best friends,” she remarks.
Building Self-Confidence
Joelle adds, “Academically, I have been able to open my mind to new concepts and become a more confident student. Working on campus as a student ambassador has also made me a more confident person overall. Every day I am here, I grow to love TU more and more.”
When she first applied to TU as a high school senior, Joelle made a deal with her father. She would try TU for a semester, and then she could transfer to a bigger university. “I was that sure that I would end up leaving,” she says. “But two years later, I am still here, and enjoying every minute of it.”
People Who Genuinely Care
What makes TU such a positive experience for Joelle? Many things, she says. But most of all, she feels a sense of belonging. “Here at TU, you are not a number, but your own individual person. The campus is its own little community full of resources and people who genuinely care about you,” she says. “Although I’ll be graduating next year, I know my memories from TU will stay with me forever, and Tiffin will always be a part of me.”
