The 21st-century workplace can be dynamic, fast paced, and ever changing. Businesses in today’s global marketplace are in need of leaders at every level – especially leaders with varied educational backgrounds, on-the-job experience and the skills to collaboratively solve problems in diverse environments. Tiffin University’s Bachelor of Arts in Workplace Leadership is a transfer-friendly degree-completion program, designed to build 21st-century skills and help you become a leader at work.

The Bachelor of Arts in Workplace Leadership degree features multidisciplinary coursework, designed to build skills and competencies that employers value in team leaders and managers. The program will help you develop crucial leadership skills in the areas of critical thinking, problem solving, ethical decision-making, communication and more, all through the lens of multiple cultural perspectives.

The workplace leadership program focuses on supporting your learning skills to enable you to be a leader in any organization. Other leadership programs focus on leadership positions in business, but by structuring our program around leadership skills, you’ll be able to work in any organization, including private companies, educational organizations, government agencies, non-profit companies and more.

The workplace leadership degree is extremely transfer friendly. It is designed for adult learners with completed associate degrees in any field or who have earned previous college credit. Up to 90 hours from another institution may be credited towards the program. A minimum of 48 hours transfer credit is required to enroll in this program.

All courses are asynchronous online, which allows you to complete coursework in a flexible time period while currently working.

In the B.A. Workplace Leadership program, you’ll study the latest principles and techniques that will prepare you for 21st-century workplace leadership. All courses are taught by professors using real-world case studies and leadership approaches that are up to date with current business practices and needs.

In this highly practical program, you’ll learn how to lead and develop team members to successfully achieve your organization’s objectives. With workplaces becoming more culturally diverse, you’ll learn communication skills that will help you to guide teams in working across cultures, whether interacting with colleagues, customers or the public. And in an ever-evolving work world, you’ll learn how to critically think with strategy, so that you can be a leader ready to respond to emergencies and other changes.

In the B.A. Workplace Leadership program, you’ll engage with your classmates and professors in your study of leadership. You’ll join with other students in discussions to share perspectives as pertains to leadership in the workplace. You’ll also work together other students to complete various team projects. Every course is structured around building leadership skills based on practices in leadership theory, and assignments are structured to help you apply leadership skills to actual case studies.

Cultural understanding is an integral part of the workplace leadership program. You’ll learn that success in leadership depends on working across cultural differences. In all courses, you’ll be taught theory and skills to apply leadership principles and techniques in different situations and with diverse individuals.

Finally, as you complete these assignments and projects, you’ll be able to place them in your digital ePortfolio in order to showcase your work for potential employers.

SAMPLE COURSES

Crisis and Risk Communication (COM414) – This course explores crisis and risk communication in the context of recent national and global events and through case studies of corporate, organizational and individual crises. Students will learn how to communicate with the public prior to a potential event and how to react to crisis situations. From natural disasters to intentional tragedies, public health emergencies, accidents, product recalls and financial crises, different situations and audiences require different approaches for communicating with stakeholders and the public. This course will help students become aware of ways to respond credibly, effectively and ethically.

Theory and Application of Leadership (SCS440) – This interactive course examines theories and approaches to leadership. This course provides historical analysis of leaders and the evolution of leadership theory as well as gender and cultural approach to the topic. Students will gain an understanding of the leadership process and its elements, leaders, followers and contexts. The course will review the scholarship and research of leadership and provide a synthesis of the contemporary leadership models.

Leading with Cultural Intelligence (SCS471) – Cultural Intelligence (CQ) is a critical capability for effective leadership in our multicultural, global world. In this course, students will undertake a journey of self-awareness to explore new ways of thinking about and embracing cultural difference. Using the CQ framework as a guide, students will discover strategies to improve their adaptability, judgement, decision-making, negotiation, trust and innovation, enabling them to lead more effectively and more authentically in culturally diverse situations.

Human, Interpersonal and Small Group Communication (COM310) – This course explores three related disciplines of communication as they pertain to the basic process of human interaction, both interpersonally and in small groups. Students will survey some of the main theories of human communication, including those that explain the processes involved in dyadic relationships, self-disclosure and listening. These principles will be integrated into larger communication contexts in order to understand how decision-making and problem solving occur in small groups.

Online – Offered in two terms per semester starting in January, March, May, July, August and October

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, people with bachelor’s degrees earn 66 percent more than those with a high school diploma and 34 percent more than those with an associate degree. In Tiffin University’s B.A. Workplace Leadership, if you have up to 90 credits, you can complete your bachelor’s degree while also learning skills that employers identify for leadership positions.
