TU to Recognize Class of 2020 with Virtual Commencement Ceremony

TIFFIN UNIVERSITY, Tiffin, OH— Unable to hold traditional graduation festivities because of the coronavirus pandemic, Tiffin University will host a virtual commencement ceremony on May 2 beginning at 2 p.m. The ceremony will come after Tiffin University and other institutions of higher education across the state and country have shifted to online classes this spring to try to limit the spread of the virus.

About the Ceremony
Dr. Peter Holbrook, Provost, will lead the virtual ceremony and over 800 graduate names will be announced. The event will be posted on TU’s website tiffin.edu/commencement. TU’s President Dr. Lillian Schumacher, Board of Trustee Chair Dr. Claire Johansen and Brenda Collins, President of TU’s Alumni Association will give remarks. Diplomas will be conferred and will be sent to each graduate by mail.

About the Message
Dr. Reginald Wilkinson, President of Connecting the Dots, LLC, a consulting company will deliver a brief message. Dr. Wilkinson, who also serves on TU’s Board of Trustees, has extensive experience in government, non-profit administration, and the private sector and is the author of “Leadership and Management: Connecting the Dots,” an exploration of a diverse variety of successful approaches to leadership spanning across business, government and nonprofit sectors.

"Dr. Wilkinson was selected because of his impressive career achievements and the leadership that he has provided to his profession as well as TU as a dedicated trustee since 2012,” said TU President Lillian Schumacher. “He has succeeded in his career and his life based on hard his hard work and integrity.”

“We were all heartbroken when the coronavirus pandemic forced us to make different arrangements for spring commencement,” Schumacher said. “We still want to recognize our students on commencement day and award the academic degrees that they earned through years of study and hard work. Hopefully, this virtual ceremony will give our graduates and their loved ones an opportunity to participate in a meaningful shared experience.”
