I am culturally unique because of my lived experiences. I am a first-generation college student who grew up in a family of moderate means. I was raised by an artist with one arm and grew up learning about differences that each of us have, and how those differences make us exceptional. I started my career as a high school teacher at an all-girls school in Brooklyn, NY for low-income children who are now women that I still talk to on a regular basis. I built my family through adoption and through my experiences with transracial adoption have immersed my family in cultures and cultural experiences different from my own. I have traveled the world and have learned from those who are different from me. I am culturally unique because of my own lived experiences, but also, listening and learning to the lived experiences of others.
