Why I am Culturally Unique
Dr. Peter J. Holbrook
My cultural identify and core values have been shaped by both my family of origin and my life experiences. As a 14th generation American, my paternal and maternal ancestors left their homelands in search of a better life free from the constraints of religion and the larger social, cultural, and economic pressures of their time. Equality, Access, and Opportunity have become core values passed on by those who came before me and instilled in me by my midwestern parents and grandparents. These core values have been honed by my life experiences and reinforced by my identity as a white, cisgender male who identifies as LGBTQ+ and a first-generation college graduate.
