Tiffin University has voted to appoint John (J.D.) Kinn as its newest member.

John (J.D.) Kinn, a lifelong Seneca County resident, has had a successful and varied career in business, real estate and insurance. After early roles with the Ohio Historical Society and Continental Insurance, he joined his father’s agency in 1968 and was soon recognized as Sales Associate of the Year by the Ohio Association of Realtors. Over the years, he co-owned several local businesses and ventures including real estate firms, a travel agency, a tavern, a golf club and a Florida condominium development. He also helped grow a regional insurance agency with 18 offices, later acquired by a bank, where he continued working until retiring in 2023. Beyond business, J.D. is passionate about Ohio history and archaeology, has published numerous articles and is active in charitable work. He previously served on Tiffin University’s Board of Counselors.

“We are honored to welcome J.D. Kinn to the Tiffin University Board of Trustees,” said Dr. Lillian Schumacher, President of Tiffin University. “His extraordinary business acumen, dedication to service and deep ties to the region bring valuable perspective to our Board. As a former member of our Board of Counselors and a passionate advocate for education and community, J.D. understands the importance of preparing students for success in a changing world.  As a long-time contributor to the success of TU, he has our deep gratitude for his continued commitment.”
