Tiffin University Hosts Northwest Collaborative Title IX Mini-Conference for Professional Development and Collaboration

Tiffin University recently welcomed nearly 50 Title IX professionals to campus for the Northwest Collaborative Title IX Mini-Conference, a two-day professional development event held June 17-18. Representatives from five regional institutions; Tiffin University, Heidelberg University, the University of Findlay, Bluffton University and Defiance College gathered to strengthen their knowledge, share resources and collaborate on best practices in Title IX compliance and student support. The event was made possible through grant funding from the Ohio Department of Higher Education, with the proposal written and submitted by the University of Findlay, in collaboration with representatives of the other institutions.

The conference featured three experienced trainers from Bricker Graydon, who led participants through a robust and practical agenda. On the first day, attendees chose between two focused training tracks—one designed specifically for Title IX investigators, and the other tailored for Title IX directors and coordinators. These sessions allowed professionals to deepen their understanding of their distinct roles while engaging with real-world scenarios and current best practices.

Day two offered a broader lens, beginning with Clery Act training, followed by a Title IX overview session ideal for newer staff or those cross-trained in related roles. The day concluded with a mock hearing, giving participants the opportunity to observe, participate in and discuss how Title IX hearings are structured and conducted under current federal guidelines. Participants self-selected into one of three groups, advisor for the complainant, advisor for the respondent and decision maker, to practice the skills for these roles such as creating relevant questions and weighing testimony.

The collaborative nature of the conference fostered connection and knowledge-sharing across campuses, reinforcing a shared commitment to Title IX compliance, student support and equitable resolution processes.

Tiffin University participants included:

  • Dean Butler
  • Nadia Lewis
  • Jamie Lodermeier
  • Dr. Sandy Miller
  • Javier Solorzano Parada
  • Dr. Ronee Rice
  • Tangi Ritchie
  • Daniel Lasure

By hosting this event, Tiffin University continues to demonstrate its dedication to creating a safe and informed campus community while actively engaging with regional partners in support of Title IX education and compliance.
