Tiffin University is to host an educational series about the Israel-Palestine conflict, called The Experiment. Students from Dr. Elizabeth Athaide-Victor’s classes were interested in being part of a group that explored the conflict as an extra- curricular activity and decided that they wanted to share their research with other students and the Tiffin Community.
The result is dispassionate, unbiased, empirical, research-based investigations from many sources, including meetings with individuals from various diverse communities and experiences.
Presentations and dates are:
Current Israel-Palestine Situation – What is the current situation of the conflict? How? Why? What was the world’s response? Wednesday, February 21 at 7 p.m. in Chisholm Auditorium, located in Franks Hall.
The Big Picture – Who are the main groups involved in this action? What are the drivers? What are the ramifications now or in the future? Are there legal issues, and if yes, what are the legal issues? What are the suggested remedies? Wednesday, March 27 at 7 p.m. in Chisholm Auditorium, located in Franks Hall.
Artificial Intelligence and Media – What is the effect of social media, AI and other technologies in the conflict? What are the other technologies? How do the technologies help or hinder the situation? Wednesday, April 17 at 7 p.m. in Chisholm Auditorium, located in Franks Hall.
Solutions – What are some solutions we as a collective can identify? Audience participation welcomed. Wednesday, April 24 at 7 p.m. in Chisholm Auditorium, located in Franks Hall.
“When the events in the Middle East began, students began talking about it as it related to the subject/class material. It was very apparent that they did not have important background information such as history, geography, the factual information or where to obtain it, political, legal, economic and international issues that impinge on the situation,” Dr. Victor said. “I asked if students were interested in being part of a group that explored the issue for its own sake – learning for the sake of learning – and more than 30 students signed up.”
