Tiffin University will host Drone Safety Day on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tiffin University’s Heminger Center, located at 350 Miami St., Tiffin. Hosted by Tiffin University’s Drone Academy and presented by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, this event promotes safe drone operations and showcases their benefits for hobbyists and professionals.
Drone Safety Day, part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) annual campaign to educate attendees on responsible drone use. Participants can learn to fly drones, understand airspace restrictions, use pre-flight checklists, consider weather impacts and explore the Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST), a mandatory FAA certification for recreational pilots. The event features hands-on activities, including live flight training using the NIST UAS Training Course, FPV drone flying and outdoor drone flights supervised by FAA Part 107-certified pilots. This family-friendly event encourages attendees to “Fly RIGHT” (Register, Interact, Gain knowledge, Have a safety plan, Trust and train).
Demonstrations will include drone-in-a-box technology, and a “Drones in the Community” forum at noon will feature experts from law enforcement, ODOT, FAASTeam and Tiffin University’s Drone Academy discussing drone applications.
Participating organizations include Tiffin University Drone Academy, Seneca County Drone Team (Tiffin Police and Seneca County Sheriff’s Office), Ohio Department of Transportation (featuring drone simulators and a tethered drone), Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ohio Homeland Security, CSX Railroad Police, FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam), Zephyr Drone Simulators, Angel Aerial Systems and Ohio Drone Repair.
Food and refreshments from Mad Love Food Truck, High Voltage Coffee and La Trailita Taco’s y Mas LLC will be available for purchase.
