International Events and Programs

Throughout the year, Tiffin University hosts a variety of events and services for our international student body. These vary in scope from informational sessions regarding F-1 visa regulations to events that promote cultural exchange. Please see below for a list of many of our regularly scheduled events.

  • Airport Shuttle Service
  • CPT/OPT Training Sessions
  • Food & Culture Series
  • Holiday Host Program
  • International Dinner
  • International Flag Ceremony
  • Orientation programs
  • TU Dragon Wagon

All Tiffin University students are invited to use the Airport Shuttle Service. This service provides transportation to and from the Detroit (DTW) airport for official University breaks. Request forms are required and deadlines are applicable for all shuttles. Please see the Airport Shuttle Service Request Form and the Transportation Policy for more details.

Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT) are internship and employment opportunities for international students, though the application process can be confusing. We host regular training sessions to provide easy-to-follow guidelines for these programs as well as answer student questions. CPT and OPT handouts are available here.

The Food & Culture series provides all TU faculty, staff, and students the opportunity to learn about the interconnection between culture and cuisine. Each lecture focuses on a specific region or country, and immediately following the presentation, attendees are welcome to eat in Cole Dining Hall for a lunch that highlights the particular region or country that was discussed. Students who attend the lecture receive personal development co-curricular credit.

Some of the most celebrated holidays in America include Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. What better way to experience traditional family life in the U.S. than the partaking in the customs and traditions of these holidays. Interested international students simply sign up to participate and are then paired with a local host family far a day event.

Each spring, the World Student Association hosts the International Dinner to celebrate the food, culture, and traditions of our diverse international student body. The dinner features a menu of recipes submitted by students and music and dance performances by students as well.

The annual International Flag Ceremony is sponsored by the World Student Association and always well attended. This event welcomes our new international students to campus and honors those returning. Students from countries that are new to TU also have their countries’ flags inducted into the international flag corridor in Gillmor Student Center. The ceremony is held yearly during the U.S. Department of State’s International Education Week in November.

Each fall and spring when new students arrive, it is important to orient them not only to Tiffin University, but to the community of Tiffin as a whole. We spend 2-3 days each semester to ensure that students receive all of the necessary information and support to make their stay in the U.S. as academically and personally satisfying as possible. For more information, please visit the Arrival and Orientation website.

Tiffin University provides the TU Dragon Wagon every Wednesday afternoon 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. and Saturday morning 8 a.m. -12 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) during the fall and spring. The Dragon Wagon will travel within the city limits of Tiffin. Appointments are required and recommended to be made at least 24 hours in advance. To utilize the taxi, students must visit the Student Affairs Office or email gameroom@tiffin.edu. Please see Transportation Policy for more details.
