Mason holds a PhD in Biochemical Photochemistry, specializing in several key areas. His research focused on gene cloning, protein expression, and fluorescent protein labeling for the site-specific, single labeling of native proteins. Additionally, he developed ssDNA ligands using the SELEX method (Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential Enrichment) targeting cancer immune checkpoint proteins. His work also included functional studies and initial biocompatibility testing of new coating materials for potential environmental applications.
