Tiffin University alumnus David Pauly, 1990, was recently appointed as the City of Tiffin’s new Chief of Police by Mayor Aaron Montz. David took office as of January 1, 2022. His alma mater is nothing short of ecstatic to see another graduate succeeding in his career, especially one as long and decorated as his. David is excited to continue serving his community through this new role, though he wouldn’t exactly refer to Tiffin as new.
David began his work with the Tiffin Police Department three decades ago while still completing his bachelor’s of criminal justice through TU, serving as an auxiliary officer at the time. He served from 1990-2006, wearing many hats throughout his employment. David’s numerous roles with the Tiffin Police Department included being a police officer, serving in the Road Patrol, Search and Rescue Dive Team, Special Response Team and as a D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Officer. Beginning in 2006, David became a Special Agent Supervisor for the Bureau of Criminal Investigations under the Office of the Ohio Attorney General, working on the FBI Human Trafficking Task Force. He also holds a degree from the University of Virginia and is a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army National Guard for six years. Additionally, he is a graduate of the FBI Executive Leadership National Academy.
David attributes some of his career-related accomplishments to the education he received while at TU. When asked about this, he said, “Tiffin University provided me with the tools to better cope and handle the challenges that you will face as a leader in an organization. As a young TU criminal justice student, I was challenged by my professors to think and consider new ideas, not just about law enforcement, but about life, and in the process learned from other students in my classes who had very different life experiences. We learned from each other and this sharing of information and experiences was critical to my mindset and approach throughout my law enforcement career.”
David’s Dragon Family congratulates him on his recent appointment, and would like to take this opportunity to welcome him back to the same community where his career began. We are proud to have played a part in his professional development and know he will make the City of Tiffin proud through all of his endeavors.
