Students from Tiffin University have achieved recognition in the Global Top 100 Rankings for their performance in the Business Strategy Game during March and April.

The Business Strategy Game is an online exercise in which students are divided into teams and tasked with running an athletic footwear company in a head-to-head competition against companies managed by other students from around the world. Mimicking real-world experience, companies compete in a global market arena, selling branded and private-label athletic footwear across four geographic regions. Each week, the Business Strategy Game compiles its Global Top 100 lists based on four key performance metrics: overall score, earnings per share, return on average equity and stock price.

For Tiffin University, in industry eight, the co-managers of Company A earned a Global Top 100 ranking for their return on average equity (ROE). Their ROE of 61.2% ranked 63rd worldwide for the week of March March 17-23. Team members included Mike Bond, William Linkhart, Gauge Samson and Kazi Welch.

The co-managers of TU’s Company B earned a Global Top 100 ranking in multiple categories. Their overall game-to-date perfect score of 110.0 tied for number one worldwide for the week in both March and April. Their earnings per share of $32.18 ranked fourth worldwide, while their stock price of $615.74 ranked 25th in March. In April, their earnings per share of $30.70 placed 31st. Team members included David Caplescu, Stefan Popescu, Andrei Stanculescu and Marcus Stewart.

In industry nine for TU, the co-managers of Footuristic earned a Global Top 100 ranking for their overall game-to-date score and earnings per share in March. Their score of 109.5 tied for the 39th best worldwide for the week, while their earnings per share of $23.23 ranked 44th. In April, they placed sixth overall in the earnings per share category at $39.29 and their overall game-to-date score was 108. Team members included Katelyn Atkinson, Vlad Halciug, Aubrie Harper and Maci Head.

Some of the universities that Tiffin competes with in the BSG include the University of Michigan, Baylor University, Florida State University, George Mason University, Purdue University, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, the University of Alabama, the University of Arizona, the University of Colorado, the University of Florida, the University of Georgia and the University of Texas. Ohio-based competitors include Cleveland State University, Franklin University, Ohio University and Xavier University. In total, 38,542 students competed across 421 campuses in 43 different countries.

“With thousands of teams representing institutions competing from every corner of globe, we are very proud of the success our students are having in this business simulation competition,” said Dr. Tom Marben, Dean of the School of Business at Tiffin University. “These students are able to put their knowledge into practice through this engaging simulation, and it is a testament to the knowledge they have developed throughout their time at Tiffin University.”
