Tiffin University Athletics will welcome local students to campus on Friday, November 6, for the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge, a statewide initiative focused on helping young people build healthy habits, confidence and teamwork through mentorship from collegiate student-athletes.
The event will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. in the TU Heminger Center located at 350 Miami St, Tiffin. It will bring together students from Tiffin Middle School, Calvert Catholic Schools and Bridges Preparatory Academy. Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel and his Team Tressel staff will also be in attendance.
Lt. Governor Jim Tressel recently announced that every college and university in Ohio with an athletic program is partnering with the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge to bring student-athletes into participating schools in their communities. Throughout the fall, those student-athletes will visit nearby schools and share lessons from their own experiences, encouraging students to set goals, build confidence, support their teammates, and develop healthy habits that last a lifetime.
Student-athletes will reinforce the Challenge’s focus on cardio, strength, flexibility, nutrition, and sleep while helping students understand that caring for their mental health is just as important as caring for their physical health. The goal of the athlete mentor network is to connect students with role models who believe in them and show them what is possible when they believe in themselves.
“Bringing the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge to our campus and local community is a tremendous opportunity to connect with local students and showcase the impact of Tiffin University Athletics,” said Kelly Daniel, Assistant Vice President for Athletics at Tiffin University.
“Through this initiative, our student-athletes can share an important message with younger children about the value of fitness, dedication and striving to be their best—not only physically, but mentally and academically in the classroom. Our capstone project brings this message to life by having each team lead a hands-on station that connects directly to its sport. This collaborative experience allows our student-athletes to serve as role models, develop leadership skills and create meaningful connections with the next generation.”
She continued, “We are honored to welcome Lieutenant Governor Tressel to campus as he promotes his fitness challenge and joins us in celebrating the culmination of this exciting capstone project. It is a wonderful opportunity to bring our campus and community together while reinforcing the values of health, education, leadership and Dragon pride!”
