About the Blanchard Valley Plein Air Painters

The Blanchard Valley Plein Air Painters group began as a volunteer-led program for the Hancock County Parks in 2013. The goal was to provide opportunities for artists to meet and paint together in various park locations and to expand awareness and appreciation of plein air painting (painting “outdoors”). Artists work in all media, but predominately oil, watercolor, acrylic and pastel.

Members of the Blanchard Valley Plein Air Painters are committed to plein air painting and provide support and encouragement for one another while meeting weekly on Thursday mornings from April through November. A like-minded love for expression creates a wonderful social aspect, although each artist plein air paints for their own reasons (as therapy, social aspect, love of nature, artistic discipline or all the above). Additional outings are scheduled as weather and time permit, and each year the group organizes, in cooperation with the Hancock Park District, a Paint-Out open to area artists at Litzenberg Memorial Woods in Findlay, Ohio.

The group exhibits informally each year at the Litzenberg Paint-Out, but has also shown at the Owens Community College Findlay campus gallery, at American Frame in Maumee, Ohio, and most recently at the Findlay Art League’s “2019 Art of Your Hometown” and “2020 Where We Live” shows.

Members participating in the show include:

  • Sharon Hammer Baker
  • Cathy Grossman
  • Sachiko Kawamura
  • William Mancuso
  • Chong Hui Lee Blanton
  • Jennifer Sowders
  • Sharon Rapp
