Q&A with Dr. Amy Wood

My name is Amy Wood I am the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management at TU. We are so excited to share information about our very first Forensic Science Academy this summer, June 24-27, for teens in grades 9 through 12. In my role, I’ve worked with students in the College Credit Plus (CCP) program for over four years and we’ve never had an opportunity for high school students like this – to get involved in college life, earn college credit and learn more about forensic science.

We understand that summer plans are quickly taking shape. Take a step back and take some time to earn college credit – and get the hang of your future in forensic science at TU’s Forensic Science Academy. Here are three things you need to know about our academy:

  1. The Program – Our academy will cover all things forensic science. Your high schooler will learn about crime scene investigations, fire forensics, finger printing, ballistics and bullet trajectory and explosive detonation – all through hands-on experiences. They will learn principals and tactics about criminal investigations through chemistry, biology and law from high-level TU professors in our Criminal Justice Crime Lab. They will complete an escape room exercise, a morgue visit and a forensic science career presentation – fun and learning at the same time. If Law and Order, CSI and NCIS are on regular rotation at your house and science has become a fun mystery for to solve, it’s time to get your high schooler some actual experience in forensic science.
  2. Professional Professors –  This program is for high schoolers, but is taught by our criminal justice professors, who are highly qualified, enthusiastic and love what they do – so much that they are volunteering during their summer off to present a field of study to new, excited young minds. Their teaching philosophy includes innovative and experiential learning which will help your student excel in the classroom, deepen their interests in extracurricular activities and develop skills to help them succeed in college and beyond.  All hands-on projects that will emphasize presentation and communication skills, as well as applied learning, bringing the real world from their prior careers into the classroom.
  3. Results – Our Forensic Academy will produce your young adult with a college credit. This is the perfect summer opportunity for your teen to earn college credit – at a discount – while having fun and learning at the same time! For only $499, students will stay overnight on campus and get a first-hand look at college life and life in forensic science, while earning one college credit. (That’s almost $400 cheaper than TU tuition of $857 for one college credit.)

This isn’t just a camp – this is an experience for your future.
Register today at The deadline is Friday, June 7, but only 20 campers will be accepted – so log on today!
