Hall of Famer Bryceson Lawrence

We recently chatted with Bryceson Lawrence who played football at TU. Bryceson was a two-time All IFA selection from 2003-06 who was also NCAA All Region in 2004. In 2006, he was a All Independent selection. He ranks 4th in career interceptions and solo tackles and 10th in overall tackles and 7th in deflections. He led the team to the 2006 GLFC CoChampionship with a school record of 10-1. Enjoy our Q&A with Bryceson.

What first attracted you to Tiffin University?
The Football Program and The Sports Management Program

What was your biggest challenge to overcome as an athlete/coach?
My biggest challenge to overcome as an athlete was balancing out both football and academics. As a college athlete, your sport is year round. Playing, training, film study was year round on top of the academic workload.

What do you feel was the highlight of your athletic playing/coaching career?
Highlight of my athletic career: Number of Things

Team– Best Team in school history 10-1, Nationally ranked in the Top 15

Individual– Voted Team Captain 2x, Voted 3x Most Valuable Defensive Back, Voted 3x Team Defensive MVP, 2x National Player of the Week, ALL conference or ALL Independent Team, All Region, Pre Season All-American, Cactus Bowl Nominee

Who were some of your closest friends/associates from your playing/coaching career?
Austin Clopton, Henry Russell, Steve Davis, and Stanley Davis

Who were some key coaches/administrators that helped you during that period?
Head Coach: Nate Cole, Dean Walendzak, Dave Barr, Lorenzo Guess, Paul Smith, and Travis Everhart (Recruited me)

Who do you feel had the biggest influence in helping you achieve success on and/or off the field?
My coaches and teammates.

What was the most important thing you learned during your time at TU?
1) leadership 2) Everything is earned, not given

How have you used your Tiffin University experience in your post-collegiate career?
My TU experience helped me continue to play Professional Indoor Football, start a family, start my own business, and coach the game of football.
