How to Transfer from Community College to University
Making the transition from a community college to a university might seem complicated at first, but it can be a smooth process when you have the right support. If you’ve been wondering how to transfer from community college to university, you’re not alone. Thousands of students make this move every year, and at TU, we’re here to help you every step of the way.
Step 1: Apply and Request Transcripts
Start by submitting your application online. As soon as you apply, begin requesting official transcripts from every institution you’ve previously attended. While you wait for official copies to arrive, you can send unofficial transcripts to speed up the process. If you’ve completed 12 or more transferable credits from a regionally accredited school, you may not need to submit your high school transcript unless other admission requirements apply.
Submit Your FAFSA
To make sure you receive the financial aid you qualify for, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as possible. Tiffin University’s school code is 003121. Our financial aid team will work with you to explore your options and make college more affordable.
Credit Evaluation
Once your transcripts are received, our team will begin a full evaluation. We don’t just compare course numbers. We review your academic background holistically to give you credit for the knowledge you’ve already gained. If you hold an associate degree from a regionally accredited institution, you’ll only need up to 60 additional credits to finish your bachelor’s at TU. In some cases, it may be even fewer.
Admission Decision and Final Steps
After the evaluation, we’ll make an admission decision and schedule a phone appointment with you. During this call, your advisor will walk you through how your credits transfer, what degree requirements remain and which courses you’ll take next. Once your course schedule is confirmed, you’ll be guided through the final steps of turning in any remaining documents and completing your online orientation.
Transfer to TU
If you’re thinking about transferring colleges, Tiffin University is ready to welcome you. For transfer students joining us in the Spring 2026 semester, if you visit campus and complete your FAFSA by December 15, 2025, you will receive a $500 visit grant and a $500 FAFSA grant. This is in addition to the merit-based scholarships and other financial aid you may already qualify for.
