Tiffin University student group, First-Generation Dragons, will celebrate National First-Generation College Student Day on November 8. At 12:30 in the Osceola Theatre, a panel of alumni and faculty members will share their experiences as first-generation college students. Featured speakers include Tessa Kellar, Market Development Executive at Beam Dental; Kyle Johnson, Senior Information Security Consultant at Madiant; Autumn Cooper, Assistant Branch Manager at Peoples Bank; Andrew Faber, Assistant Professor of Accounting at TU; and Dr. Sharon Perry-Fantini, TU Vice Provost for Equity, Access and Opportunity. The speakers will discuss their careers, give advice and provide inspiration to current TU students.
First-Generation Dragons will also be hosting a photobooth in Gillmor Lobby, as well as an all-day scholarship campaign. The campaign will raise scholarship funds for an incoming first-generation, first-year college student, starting fall semester of 2022.
Donations are accepted at https://crowdfund.tiffin.edu/project/27450.
“Thirty-eight percent of our students are first-generation students. These students are the first in their family to go to college; they are diverse and span socio-economic classes, countries, religions, ethnicities, sexual orientations and more. We want to support them socially and financially, so they focus on their studies and their futures” said Tiffin University President Dr. Lillian Schumacher.
