Tiffin University Receives U.S. Department of Education Grant

TU has been awarded over $2.24 million over five years from the U.S. Department of Education. The U.S. Department of Education Title III Grant – Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP) is designed to help higher education institutions expand their capacity to serve at-risk students by providing funds to improve and strengthen the institution’s academic quality, institutional management and fiscal stability.

TU’s Title III project will implement strategies that will create engagement opportunities that enhance connection between students, faculty and campus life; improve overall student support services, communication and interventions; enhance career services, internships and experiential learning to increase

job readiness and tie studies to a future career; conduct professional development for staff and faculty to improve wraparound and continuous student support; and develop a master plan to look at space utilization to improve student engagement and support activities.

Tiffin University President Dr. Lillian Schumacher said, “We are elated to have been selected as a recipient of this grant, and we are so grateful for the team who worked hard on it. The long-term outcomes of the project are expected to positively impact TU’s retention, graduation rates and overall student success and satisfaction – all immensely valuable for our community.”

Some of the projects that will be executed include the development of a university master plan, creation of new study spaces, purchasing computers, technology and furnishings, an AI chatbot, a Student Early Alert System, as well as additional student support personnel.
