Tiffin University rolled out the green carpet for the new Dragon class of 2025 on Friday, August 23 to kick off Welcome Weekend.
The new students were welcomed to their new home away from home by current students, faculty and staff. Move-in started promptly at 9 a.m., then parents and students had a full day of activities, sessions, the Welcome Fair and convocation.
The band, cheerleaders and flag squad led new students into Heminger Center for the convocation Saturday afternoon. Staff and faculty members formed a tunnel to applaud and greet the students as they entered. Once students took their seats, Dr. Peter Holbrook, Provost and Chief Academic Officer, welcomed the group to the 134th academic year at Tiffin University and thanked the students for choosing to become a Dragon.
Andrew Felter, Chair of the Board of Trustees and alumnus of the University also welcomed the class, family members and friends. Felter introduced the Board, letting the audience know how much the board cares about the University and its students. He went on to say “Hustle, passion, perseverance – also known as grit – is what you displayed to get here. Here, at TU, we will help you succeed in your future.”
Dr. Lillian Schumacher, President of Tiffin University, recognized faculty and staff for their hard work throughout the year. She shared words of encouragement with the new students. She told them “Focus on yourself, and become self-aware. Have the guts and courage to try something new and something different. Take initiative and self-impose your efforts. Choose to have a positive attitude. Finally, have big dreams, and believe that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.”
After hear additional remarks from Tiffin Mayor, Aaron Montz, Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management & Student Success, Dr. Amy Wood and the Class Vice President, Dr. Holbrook took the stage again to tell the crowd “No matter how difficult a task is, you can only complete it by taking the first step. Class of 2025, this is your first step.”
Vickie Wilkins, Director of Alumni Relations, Jacob Simon, Dean of Students and Dr. John Millar, former Professor of Management and Dean Emeritus also addressed the group.
