Up in the Air featured on XM Radio

Tiffin University’s a cappella group Up in the Air and director Brad Rees were on tour during spring break, giving 14 performances in Indiana, Ohio, Virginia and Washington DC. Among them was a visit to the SiriusXM studios in the nation’s capital.

The group visited the on-air studios of the “60s on 6” show, hosted by Phlash Phelps, and performed live on-air their a cappella version of the Beatles’ classic “We Can Work It Out,” which went out to about a quarter million listeners nationwide. Up in the Air also visited the XM Live Performance Studio to record a session engineered by Jack MacInnis, XM’s Senior Director of Broadcast Operations.

“It was so exciting to be in that amazing space,” said Rees. The XM Live Studio is a state-of-the-art recording facility that has served to record hundreds of legendary musicians, including superstars Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Robert Plant, Heart, Willie Nelson, Allman Brothers, Melissa Etheridge, Yes, Chicago, Emmy Lou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Alan Parsons, Pete Seeger and many others.

The tour also featured performances for a dozen school audiences, an appearance at the George Mason University vocal jazz festival and a performance at a live music club in Fairfax, Virginia.

Up in the Air is: Darla Arnett (music major, Toledo Ohio), Quinn Gray (criminal justice major, Westerville Ohio), Payton Hulsinger (music major, Cleveland Ohio), Logan Jackson (music/marketing major, Sandusky Ohio), Eli Johncox (exercise science major, Richwood Ohio), Mishele Matlock (music major, Ashtabula Ohio), Layla Pollock (psychology major, Detroit Michigan) and Jayla Warren (music major, Atlanta Georgia.)

The group is now preparing to host the global sensation Accent for the inaugural Accent Vocal Festival in Tiffin on April 11-13, their two-week May tour, for an appearance at a major summer music festival and for an upcoming album release.
