Cost, Financial Aid and Payment Options
Costs

The cost of studying abroad varies by program and destination. While tuition is often comparable to Tiffin University’s standard tuition rates, the greatest variation in cost is typically associated with housing and meal expenses, which differ by location. Students should review their program’s website for the most current tuition, housing, and fee information. Some programs may also require additional fees, such as mandatory health insurance or administrative charges. A student’s tuition charges during their semester abroad will not be less than Tiffin University’s tuition rate.
In most cases, tuition and applicable fees are paid directly to Tiffin University, which then coordinates payment with the study abroad program provider. Depending on the destination, housing costs may be billed through Tiffin University or paid directly by the student after arrival, often in the local currency. Any expenses not billed through Tiffin University are the responsibility of the student and should be paid directly to the program provider. Students with questions regarding program costs or payment procedures are encouraged to contact the Study Abroad Coordinator.
Additional expenses will vary based on each student’s travel plans, personal spending habits, and lifestyle while abroad. Costs for travel, entertainment, meals, shopping, and other personal expenses should be carefully considered when creating a budget. Previous study abroad participants can often provide valuable insight into typical expenses. Students are encouraged to plan ahead by researching destinations they wish to visit, activities they hope to experience, and transportation options. Many study abroad programs also have local staff who can recommend affordable travel and sightseeing opportunities.
Financial Aid and Scholarships
Financial Aid is available for participants in Tiffin University approved Study Abroad Programs. These are programs with which we have signed articulation agreements and are accredited in the United States.
It is important for you to talk directly with the Director of Financial Aid regarding your eligibility for financial aid. Recipients of Tiffin University aid, including academic scholarships, named scholarships, grants, athletic scholarships or activity grants, may use these funds for ONE study abroad semester. Students wishing to participate in a full year of study abroad will not receive these for the second semester, but may be eligible for federal or state loans and grants.
Payment
Your FAFSA and all other required documents must be submitted to the Financial Aid Office no later than July 1 for Fall participation and October 1 for Spring participation. If financial aid is incomplete due to your delay in providing documentation, you are responsible for payment of all tuition, housing and food, due prior to departure. You will receive the aid payment when all documentation is completed prior to applicable federal and state deadlines.
Tuition, fees, housing and food must be paid prior to your departure for the program, or satisfactory payment arrangements must be made with the Director of Student Accounts. All fees will be paid to Tiffin University which will then pay the program administration. Tiffin University will not be able to confirm your participation in a study abroad program until all fees are paid.
Tiffin University offers a monthly payment plan. It is suggested that you start this plan in April of the year prior to your departure in order to have all fees paid before you leave. By doing this you can spread the cost over the maximum number of months.
