Academic Component
Join the 7th Academic Experience with Olympians at the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles
Students will register for either the graduate or undergraduate hybrid course by paying tuition. Students will be enrolled in an online platform (Moodle) to access materials and assignments.
Undergraduate and graduate students attending the Games are required to enroll in a three-credit hour hybrid course with Tiffin University. Transcripts are mailed directly to the college the student identifies for transfer credit. With permission, MBA students at Tiffin University may use the course as a substitute for SRM670 Sport Mentorship or another course in their concentration.
The academic component includes an exploration into global sports with a focus on the historical, organizational, philosophical, ethical and economic influences of the Modern Olympic Games. While maintaining a daily journal of experiences, students interact with Olympians and Olympic organizers while examining the cultural aspects of sports and the governance structures of the International Olympic Committee, National Governing Bodies, Host Site Organizing Committees and the individual sport federations.
Participation as a spectator or volunteer for Games and/or the Olympic Reunion Center or Africa House in addition to interaction with practitioners involved in the preparation of the summer Games will generate an applied understanding of global sports. Students will have the opportunity to meet Olympians and possibly members of the IOC or LA organizing committee to engage in discussions on issues impacting the Olympics. The course will be divided into assignments related to videos, readings, slide shows and web information on the managerial and cultural aspects of global sports. By blogging/journaling about their social and cultural activities while attending the Games and traveling in Los Angeles, students will document their learning experiences. In addition, the students will prepare several short narrative papers and answer questions exploring business and social topics.
