Program highlights

A highlight of the program is a humanitarian project for underprivileged youth in or near the Host City. Activities include engaging youth in sports activities, providing donated swag (toiletries, books, etc.), sharing a meal and coordinating a medal ceremony with Olympians in attendance. Participants of the Academic Experience may enroll in a 3-credit hybrid course on the Olympic Games Theory and Organization. Opportunities may be available to present research at the International Sports Business Symposium organized by Prof. Holger Preuß (Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz).

The program includes 13–15 nights of accommodations, educational sessions, ground transportation, several meals during group activities and participation in volunteer service opportunities, likely at the USA Welcome Center, USA Training Center, Olympic Reunion Center and African Hospitality House.

The base price for the program is $4,400 and does not include tuition. Tiffin University students will be billed for tuition as part of their regular 2028 summer tuition for MBA students or fall tuition for undergraduate students. Non-Tiffin University students will pay an additional $1,000 tuition fee, which will be reflected in the payment schedule outlined in the contract, for a total cost of $5,400.

The contingency typically arrives several days before the Opening Ceremonies to assist at the USA Welcome Center and participate in the torch relay. Educational programming and the Humanitarian project may take place at the Olympic Reunion Center or a local college. Several Olympic events are free (e.g. Cycling, marathon).

The Academic Experience has also taken place in Athens, Greece (2004); Beijing, China (2008); London, England (2012), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2016), Paris, France (2024). Spectators were not permitted at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
