Tiffin University Supports Military Students Through Affordable, Flexible Pathways

For military-connected students, earning a degree often means balancing education with service, family responsibilities, career demands and the possibility of relocation. Tiffin University recognizes that these students need more than access to academic programs. They need an educational path that can move with them, adapt to changing schedules and help them continue making progress even when life does not follow a traditional timeline.

That flexibility is reflected in TU’s 100% online programs, which allow students to continue their education from wherever they are. For active-duty military members and their families, a permanent change of station or a demanding work schedule does not have to interrupt progress toward a degree. With online coursework and student-focused support, TU helps military-connected students stay connected to their goals and keep moving forward.

In addition to flexibility, affordability plays an important role in helping military-connected students pursue their education. Through TU’s military tuition benefits, eligible students can earn their degree at more than 30% off the normal tuition rate. Active-duty military students receive reduced tuition rates of $250 per credit hour for undergraduate programs, $325 per credit hour for graduate programs and $450 per credit hour for doctoral programs. Additional discounts are also available for veterans, reservists, National Guard members, retired military members and dependents of active-duty service members.

For Kyle Russell, Tiffin University’s support for military-connected students has helped make continuing his education possible while balancing service, career and family responsibilities. Russell served in the U.S. Army before beginning his career in law enforcement, where he now works full time while raising a family and pursuing his college education. Continuing his education has always been important to him because he wants to better serve his community, continue growing professionally and set an example for his children that learning never stops. Tiffin’s support for veterans, he said, has made those goals achievable.

“As an Army veteran and full-time law enforcement officer, balancing the demands of work, family, and school could have easily put my education on hold,” said Russell.

“Tiffin University’s military discount and VA support have made a tremendous difference by easing the financial burden and allowing me to stay focused on my goals. I’m currently earning my bachelor’s degree in criminal behavior and psychology and plan to continue into the master’s program. Tiffin has given me the opportunity to invest in my future while continuing to serve my community with greater knowledge, confidence and purpose.”

The University’s support for military-connected students has earned both statewide and national recognition. In March, Tiffin University was named a 2026-27 Military Friendly® School and received a Gold designation. The recognition is based on public data, institutional survey responses and measures connected to student success, including retention, graduation, academic progress, career placement and support services for military students. TU was also named a 2026-27 Military Spouse Friendly® School, recognizing its continued commitment to supporting spouses as they pursue their educational goals.

In December 2025, Tiffin University was also named a Collegiate Purple Star campus by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Higher Education. The designation honors institutions that provide dedicated support for military-connected students, including veteran and military support services, priority registration, needs assessments and opportunities for student connection.

For Tiffin University, supporting military-connected students is about more than offering a discount. It is about honoring service through access, stewardship and opportunity, ensuring that students and their families have the resources they need to pursue their goals with confidence.
