Last week, Tiffin University’s Dragon Flight Fellowship reached a new technological milestone by successfully testing lunch delivery by drone on campus. The initiative, conducted in partnership with on-campus restaurant Wall St. Pub and Grille, marks a significant step forward in practical applications for unmanned systems.
The inaugural delivery featured a lunch prepared by Wall St. Pub and Grille, specifically ordered for Tiffin University’s Provost and Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Peter J. Holbrook. Students within the University’s Dragon Flight Fellowship executed the flight, showcasing their hands-on training and technical expertise.
Following the success of this initial test, program coordinators and the Dragon Flight Fellowship are in active discussions with Wall St. Pub and Grille to expand the service. The proposed expansion would bring drone food delivery directly to students at campus dormitories during select evenings this upcoming fall.
Ryan Gillmor, Assistant Director of the Drone Academy, said “Tiffin University continues to demonstrate what forward-thinking education looks like in action. This successful drone delivery – conducted by students in the Dragon Flight Fellowship – represents more than a milestone; it showcases how emerging technologies can be applied to real-world challenges.”
“By integrating innovation, hands-on learning, and practical application, these students are not only advancing their own skillsets but also helping define the future of unmanned systems. Drone technology is rapidly evolving beyond theory, and initiatives like this prove its value in efficient, scalable solutions across industries.”
The Fellowship and restaurant will continue testing throughout the summer in hopes that food delivery on campus, by drone will be implemented in the fall.
