Tiffin University recognizes that cyber issues permeates nearly every aspect of the public and private sectors. Tiffin University is committed to increasing capacities for cybersecurity personnel, public awareness, and research throughout the University and the surrounding community. With this in mind, Tiffin University created the Center for Cybersecurity to coordinate these activities.

Cyber Center Events Information Security Summit Career Expo and Capture the Flag (CTF) on November 29, 2018 at Bowling Green State University Second Place: Bane Adkins, Nicholas Runco, Avery Garberick, and David Irving (Team Name: Malware Monkeys) Fourth Place: Nicole McCombs and Jada Gilliam (Team Name: PhantomNinja!) The competition had many aspects that your typical CTF wouldn’t have. Aspects such as lateral movement, critical-vulnerabilities-exploits, and web based attacks that penetration testers specialize in. The team learned to adapt on the spot with these skills, as well as learn the intricacies of what it is like for Red Team security professionals. Northwest Ohio ISSA CTF on April 24th, 2019 at the University of Toledo First place: Jared Cashen, David Irving, Nicholas Runco, Seth French, Zachariah Henson, Jada Gilliam, and Michaela Vojta (Team Name: TUMemes) During the time of the competition, the competitors took a Penetration Testing class at Tiffin University where they learned the skills needed for the ISSA Capture the Flag Event. The lessons learned from this event were physical security and physical lock-picking. The team had to work together to find flags in multiple IP addresses. Collegiate Pentesting Competition (CPTC) on October 11th-13th, 2019 at Pennsylvania State University Tiffin University students: Bane Adkins, Melissa Gabriele, Josh Whitaker, David Irving, Avery Garberick, Zachariah Henson, Jada Gilliam, and Michaela Vojta participated in a regional collegiate pentesting competition. The lessons learned in this competition were to apply pentesting knowledge and techniques to effectively discover, protect, and mitigate security vulnerabilities. This competition is unique in offering a simulated environment that mimics real world networks. The competition focuses on improving the security posture of an organization and reporting on risks in a manner that is similar to a real professional environment. Information Security Summit Career Expo and CTF on October 22nd-25th, 2019 at the IX Center, Cleveland, OH First Place: Bane Adkins, Evan Blough, and Michaela Vojta Second Place: David Irving, Avery Garberick, and Jada Gilliam The teams competed against local colleges during this competition. The teams were participated in fill-in-the-blank challenge questions regarding cryptography, steganography, port security, and Morse code. During this competition, they learned that they work well with students outside of their school too. A student wanted to participate but did not have a team, so they happily invited him on their team. Below are some pictures of the teams during and after the competition.

2019 National Cyber League Fall Season on November 1st-3rd & November 15th-17th, 2019 Team One: Michaela Vojta, Bane Adkins, Evan Blough, and Melissa Gabriele Team Two: Jada Gilliam, Zachariah Henson, Avery Garberick, Josh Whitaker, and David Irving They participated in a national cyber league competition to test their skills against other people competing in a variety of topics. The individual game competition took place from November 1-3 and the team game competition took place from November 15-17. Below is a screenshot of one of the teams scores during the NCL Fall Season.

Northwest Ohio ISSA Weekly Meeting on March 20th, 2019 at the University of Toledo Tiffin University students observed 3 speakers that presented different cybersecurity topics and roles. Information Assurance Forum on October 30th, 2019 at the University of Findlay Association for Computing Machinery students observed professional and student presentations by the Ohio Cyber Collaboration Committee. The theme was “Think Global, Act Local”. Below is a picture of the students and their professors during the IA Forum.

Central Ohio Cyber Women Let’s Play Cyber Games Event on August 9th, 2019 at Huntington National Bank in Columbus, Ohio Professor Scott Blough, Evan Blough, Michaela Vojta, and Jada Gilliam mentored middle school girls ages 11-13, about cyber security topics. Below are some pictures taken during the event where the students helped the girls put together and took apart computers, used lock-picking tools, and played coding games.
